Without exception all Christain believe in divine sovereignity.You can't claim to be Christ follower and yet reject this precious truth.God Himself says,"My counsel shall stand and i shall do all my pleasure" Is 46:10.Of course at this juncture,a question begs clarification--To what extent is your God sovereign?Is He involved in the crashing of Planes,Tsunami and earthquakes,the slaughter of babies and other ghastly occurence.Is He really Sovereign in the affairs of Men and devil, Can He and Does He sometimes interfere in the wills of Men or Has He wound up the universe like the deist makes us believe and goes to sleep?.Is He a helpless spectator watching from Heaven as things get out of control?And sure! the ways of Providence are very very deep,for sometimes we expect Him to intercede and fight our cause but He doesn't.Many Christains are also wrestling with this subject.Yesterday a Brother whom I know to be a Born again askd me,"why will God create Man and put the forbidden fruit at the middle of the garden knowing full well that Man would disobey".I remembered reading a couple of puritan books that addresed this difficulty but i could see he was having problem with the soveregnity of God so i spoke at length on that before finally answering Him.Methinks,the cornerstone of atheism lies in a REJECTION OF DIVINE SOVEREGNITY.Period!We often hear objections like why will God allow this or why will He do that?among many many others.It ultimately gets back to why He does what he does.My Friend you have to realise GOD DOESN'T DO ANY THING BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT.NO! ON THE CONTRARY,IT IS RIGHT BECAUSE GOD DOES IT.God is sovereign and His will is supreme so that whatsoever he does is right.I Remember wrestling with this Precious truth as a new convert some years back while reading some portion ofholy scriptures.this truth like Jonathan edwards has rightly said made Him fall in love with the the Lord the more while pondering them.You see the truth is IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BRING THE ALMIGHTY UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO THE CREATURE.God is never obligated to give an explanation for His conduct,or answer our prayer or any such thing.He is the potter and we're the clay.So what right has the clay over the Potter?Your guess is as good as mine.If you ask me there are several reasons God does what he does.I'll give you 5
1.To harden and to give the atheist and skeptics enough reasons to disbelieve.
2.To teach the saints the entirety of God's glorious attributes--He's as much a God who loves as He who hates and punishes,
3.To strengthen his saints through harsh providence as it rolls overs them over and over again.
4.Harsh Providence sifts worshippers who desire God for his bounties and not for Himself
5.As Calvin has rightly said the entire universe is a theatre of God's glory and some happen invisibly behind the scene.
Providence says,"Listen carefully and do not understand.watch closely and learn nothing.Harden the hearts of these people.plug their ears and shut their eyes.that way,they will not see with their eyes,nor hear with their ears,nor understand with their hearts and turn to me for healing".Is 6:10
