Well God knows I have nothing personal against him. When he pulled down part of his hotel for blocking the road I was also the one that praised him here for doing what was right. Atimes we get emotional over these things but on this note I don't think I did anything bad by reporting this act.

The important question is the constituent and type of waste being released into the drainage system.

Technically there are DEFINED WASTE STREAMS and effluent limits which have been set by the Federal and most times State Ministry of Environment. In meeting these standards the hotel has to (in many cases) treat the waste to these permissible limits.

Then they are sampled and tested in a laboratory to ensure that they meet these limits before they are discharged.

Also the physical components of the waste (speed, temperature, etc) should also be taken into account. for instance the pressure/ force which the waste is released could damage the drainage system over time

The Abia State Ministry of Environment should get on top of this and guide the hotel in ensuring that they exhaust other options (use of septic pits etc) before discharging into the environment.

The appropriate thing is to plan a centralized waste collection system to serve areas within a state. However this is no small project. With the level of corruption in Nigeria, this will not be easy to achieve. Otherwise it is the best option.

There's a plan by the government of Dr Ikpeazu to adopt the use of life-enzymes in treating waste,but the issue here is how to produce enough quantity of the enzymes that will be able to degrade/ferment both solid organic waste and inorganic wastes. That's why I think the federal government should come into play here. Saraki having held the post of senate chairman on environment should be able to know what to do on this while biochemists like Dr Ikpeazu should work round the clock in producing the enzymes. Already we have reviewed some works online of those using these waste to feed animals after treating them.

I remembered that year (2012/2013) when i used to visit Aba from owerri for shopping, gallivanting and frolicking with my friends but now all my men then are now malay squad so going there is of no use and my shopping level have ultimately changed to platinum!!!!! mehn, my normal room in that hotel is rm 317 (2level underground). their room and service so cool. infact, 2700 naira will give a comfortable room underground but your network service will be like airplane mode things..but 3500 (choi!!!!) will give u a super model suit !!!! their animal pepper soup (chicken) full option for only 700 naira!!!!plus cheap strippers that throng the location...oh my goodness...u guys just reminded me of my way back cheap flexing mode. though formal governor theo orji used to lodge there, but the owner, Mandela, is a well known business man who owns a lot of hotels in aba with different names and theo also made him LGA Chairman of Ohafia....
let him use his money to upgrade that area because a lot of guys around there patronized him and so, should enjoy a conducive environment instead of smelly, fishy aroma!!!!! thanks!!!!!

Write a letter of Complaint to the Honourable Minister, Ministry of Environment, Mabushi Abuja. Attention: Director Pollution Control and Environmental Health. I am so sure that you will get positive response if you truely write with facts. The relevant authorities you are drawing their attention to the pollution incident are aware but, they need public documented complaints before directive can be given to act. Our laws made it so. I don't understand what this OP is trying to say. Liquid waste should pass thru the gutter. I do not see evidence in the pix above where solid waste was disposed into the gutter. Are we sure that this OP does not just have personal beef for the hotel management?

been in that hotel once,at ogbor hill,but the place lacks maintenance with lots of campaign vehicles park everywhere, though their swimming pool is spacious, I don't live in Aba,but I enjoy travelling.

Well, I only see liquid there. If the gutters were flowing properly, the water would not be stagnant. The problem is with the blocked drainage not wit the water that was channelled into it. So, it is still govt problem. Free Evergreen Joor
