The papers report this morning that MTN has got new numbering range, 0813 in addition to  0803, 0806, 0703 and recently, 0706. Telecom must be the only sector growing at exponential rate in this country. Wish one could say the same of the power sector.

They claim they currently have 25 millions subscribers on their network. Come to think of it. One numbering range is suppose to have 10 million subscribers. If we go by their 4 numbering ranges MTN has presently, 0803, 0806, 0703 and 0706, it means that, there is an outstanding 15 million lines lying unactivated on their network.
To me, they are only doing this to prove that they are the market leaders as they claim. It is also a marketing strategy employ by them when there are still thousands of 0803 lines in the market since 2001.
NCC should conduct an independent survey to ascertain each operators subscriber's base and not to rely on what the operators provided or supplied to them.

Networks cannot but have bloated subscriber figures at the rate some people lose their lines and get another one. A friend has changed his lines five times since January. And by law, no network can recover a line from a non-paying subscriber until 190 days. Without any doubt, such people will contribute to quick depletion of the numbers.
