New Year according to Wikipedia is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count increment by one.
Having successfully completed 12months, 52weeks, 365days, about 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes, 31,536,000 seconds, I have all the reasons to thank God for seeing me, family, friends, reader through all these figures. So what makes this year a new one (New Year)?, is it solely due to the ability and grace given by God to man to enable him count and track time?, or perhaps the calendar has helped in calculating?, Oh no!, there is more to that. A year is considered 'new' when one or more of the following points is/are considered;
#1. An opportunity to begin afresh: As today marks the beginning of the year , it is evident we look back to analyze all our past mistakes, failures etc, but do not let those weigh you down, leave behind the demons of the past and look forward to a brand new start. This is an opportunity given by God to begin once again, but this time more intelligently, an English proverb says "a good beginning makes a good end", little wonder did Plato a Philosopher says "the beginning is the most important part of the work". It is apparently painful when some people say "I have no regrets about my life. If I had it do over, I would do it the same way again". Do you not perceive mediocrity in that?. To make an end is to make a beginning. New year is not about changing the dates but direction (right); not about changing the calendar but commitment; not about changing the action but attitude.
Cheers to New Year!, another chance for us to get it right.
#2. Strategic Planning: If I'm correct Calendar 2015 has been rendered invalid as far as a new year is concerned, oh lest I forget I need to change my 2015 calendar hanging on the wall to Calendar 2016. Why do we even need to change our calendars?, it is unworthy to change a calendar just for its days, weeks and months of the year it shows, this is a good time for reassessment, strategic plannings; what do I do differently this year?, what changes can I make to make me a better, happier person?, any positive values I can add to my self in my closeness to God, career, education, skills and so on. "...Break up your ground left uncultivated for a season, so that you may not sow among thorns" (Jer.4:3). This make sense!, how much "uncultivated ground" do you have that ought to be broken up in this new year and made useful?, reassessment!. The brink of a year is a good time for this.
A good time to have a well strategize plan for effective produce.
Lastly, before I drop my pen, New year is not signified just about its enjoyment derived from its celebration, but more of the above points given. This time is what you've got to rely much on God.
Now you've got a much better chance of a New year.
