Army reacts to hunger strike by reinstated soldiers

The Nigerian Army on Friday reacted to the alleged maltreatment of about 3000 soldiers recently re-engaged.

Some of the soldiers had told Daily Trust that they were on hunger strike to protest the army’s refusal to post them five months after re-engagement.

The soldiers are part of about 2,500 soldiers and 102 officers dismissed from service over alleged offenses committed during counter insurgency operations.

Commenting on the matter, army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said the claim was unfortunate.

“It should be noted that the Nigerian Army has been tolerant and patient with their acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conducts,” he said.

“This was based on the understanding of their circumstances and conditions. Efforts have been made to retrain them, integrate and give them sense of belonging.

“But the attitude of some of them has left so much to be desired and would not be tolerated any more.

“The Nigerian Army thrives on discipline, loyalty and good conduct and if anyone of them could not measure up to expectation or live by those tenets, he should leave”, he warned.

Its just like in football when the coach/manager doesn't have full confidence on a player he benches the player, so to me the Nigerian Army is making the right decision not to immediately involve them in the fight against Boko Haram.

Those guys are indisciplined and unpatriotic. I wonder why they were reinstated in the first place. Buhari simply reinstated them for political reasons. Now they are paying the price.

This news has no source, i wonder why it should be making front page.

I doubt this story in the first place but should it be true, it clearly shows that those who criticised the army for dismising them in the first place can burry their faces in ashes.

And those who who were quick to say their misconducts were because Dasuki stole money apportioned to the army can review their comments.

Take out discipline and ridicule the Army

We all know the war they are fighting is caused by the northern oligarchs, past or present and fueled by our politicians.

So, why sacrifice other peoples' husbands and sons for it?

One bitten, forever shy, so I don't blame the soldiers.

Let the northern oligarchs withdraw their sons from their posh schools abroad and send them to fight boko haram.

It's easier to criticize from the comfort of your home, using one chinko and cheat data!tongue
Do u know what this guys and their families go through?
Do u know that they get peanuts and if they die their families most times don't get adequately compensated?
Do u know what's it's like to face the heat of battle, not knowing if u gonna survive the next one?
Do u know they don't get good allowances and upkeep.
Most of them even buy their uniforms, boots and accessories themselves.the only thing they get most times for free is just guns and ammunitions.

Stop this myopic and sentimental political charade!

same monikers screaming "insensitive government " during the last administration are here again saying nor be by force to serve father land. I don't know if this apc e-rats are of the opinion that the soldiers should not be payed or re-integrated to their respective barracks...everything to these people is politics.

The soldiers should agitate for their rights and resist this mischievous attempt to pack them to sambisa without telling them if they are with the military or not...afterall apc said the soldiers where not given ammunition to fight with so what's now their problem ? problem ?
their problem ?

government of propaganda God save us all
