Medically its d best. But spiritually u no do any fasting. But pastors always advice if u wanna do over 7days dry fasting, u need to start drinking a cup of water daily after d 7th day.

He doesn't have to drink water within d 6-6. When he breaks at 6pm, he shd drink warm water gently(not cold, not rush). And he shd knw he can't rush or eat as much as he does b4 d fasting cus if he rush foods after breaking by 6pm, apart from getting prone to ulcer, he might shit and loose body fluid and strenght to go d next day. Any food eating after breaking shd not outrule 9pm and shd be light not heavy

He shd also knw he will loose weight and ppl will ask what's going on

Depends on the type of fast. Is this a 21-day Daniel fast or Church ordered fast? Before stating my opinion, let's read Isaiah 58:6 - "Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke? "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?…" Hide yourself from your own flesh means confession of sins, renewing of the mind, deliverance.

To answer your question:

Colossians 2:21: "If you have died with Christ..., why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" ...-- in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?"

Press towards intimacy with God and ask the Holy Spirit to direct you before you start.
3 days DRY fasting -- No food/water midnight to midnight.
7 days partial fast - 3 days dry/4 days with water (I've also done 7 days -midnight to 6 - with food/water)
21 days Daniel fast (Only veggies/fruits/water)
For fasts above 7 days, I drink water during the day cos I'm always hydrated especially for Church's new year fast.

Remember, its what you do during the fast not food avoidance only. --encourage someone, give alms, bring your fleshly desires in subjection, pray fervently and study the word of God.
