I believe its a good thing to share what ever troubles you have had with your car and how it was repaired.
Some of the most tricky problems go away with very little solution.
I have lived with two BMW 520s 1989, and 1992 for sometime now. Now I have two 2002 Jeep Liberties. a Limited edition and a sport.
People say this vehicle has maintenance issues, but I think its pretty much a very interesting car to drive. Though its a fuel guzzler to the core.

If you wish to post any information or question please use this format

VEHICLE-  YEAR AND MODEL- PROBLEM SUMMARY.

QUESTION/ SOLUTION/ DETAILS

Thank you.

JEEP LIBERTY- 2002- SPEEDOMETER WORKING INTERMITTENTLY

Recently my Liberty speedometer started working intermittently, and i noticed the doors will not lock when I drive off, the ABS light will stay on. And worst of all the engine will stall when I slow down suddenly which was very disturbing cos I had to shift to N to restart the engine while driving.

My auto electrician couldn't give me the attention I needed on this one so I got on the internet to find out what the liberty speedometer sensor is made of.
The speedometer sensor is installed on the rear differential and the wires were broken, cos it was rubbing against the handbrake cable. I pulled the two apart, pulled the sensor plug and replaced the plug wires myself. This got the speedometer and every related system working again.

yea I guess I buy my cars in twos.

I agree this thread should be for strange faults but even the very obvious, could be a problem to someone out there.

That problem is kinda common this days but people ignore them. the problem with your vehicle lies btw two things.

1. The OCV Valve
2. Your ECM (brain box!!!)

its mostly likely the OCV valve. I don't know how knowledgeable you are with the system in cars so you could do a self test before replacing the valve.

Kablooee, good and encouraging contributions. Thanks for the idea.

Moreover, the code can be deleted, if you loose your battery terminals from the car in the night and in the morning, you replace it, and you can rev the engine high, with this, I think the Computer(Brain box) should be able to come back to its normal stage. Computer runs weird at times just like we human go crazy too. It is good to sideline these codes if it persists. Ever notice 'service engine soon', 'check engine light' before, it happens when those sensors go weird; mostly they are spurned-does not affect car system. cool

The advice above is exactly what experts advice you not to do, because erasing a warning will not make the problem go away. Those sensors are there to prevent serious damage to your engine.

Service engine soon mean the car had been set to a certain mileage interval to remind you to do your oil change or what ever had been preset.
Check engine light means you have mechanical or emission issues that needs your attention.

Always pull the DTC first, make necessary repairs before you erase the codes and hope they don't come back.
For service engine soon, perform scheduled maitenance as required in your manual, they reset the maintenance reminder button usually found on dash or fuse box near drvier feet.

Hello, The ocv is the oil control valve for the VVT-I system. check the connector on it, it sticks out of the head above the alternator

(quoting jay)

Check to make sure wire harness is connected

But here is a link that shows you what it is, your prblem was probably caused by irregular oil change

Print it out or save it to your hard drive and keep an eye on your mechanic
