Zaydiyyah is a branch of the Shi'ee doctrine that separated from the main branch (The twelvers) over who's the fifth imam. While the twelvers believe it was Muhammad al-Baqir, the Zaidiyyah hold that it was his brother, Zaid. They called themselves Zaydi so they could differentiate themselves from other Shi'a who refused to take up arms with Zayd ibn Ali and the later Zaydi Imams against oppression.

Among the zaydiyyah, there's some confusion. There are those who curse Abu-Bakr and Ali, and there are those who do not.The ones who curse those two companions are Zaydi Raafidhi and the scholars have pronounced takfir on them

As for the second category,Though they have errors in the creed and they also have and error with regards to who is more virtuous; hence they hold that 'Ali is more virtuous than Abu Bakr and 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with all three of them). They are still counted as being from the groups which are within the fold of Islam, although they commit major mistakes pertaining to the creed and the methodology

It's also important to add that Abu Hanifa delivered a fatwa in favour of Zayd in his rebellion against the Umayyad ruler of his time.
