with the achievements listed above, i would like to convince you and not confuse you that Yorubas are the greatest people in Nigeria and Africa

First of all, this thread is totally useless and uncalled for. Almost every ethnic group or country in this world has achievements that they are proud of. The US can go on to list feats that make the country great. The UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc. can all go on to list innumerable feats that make them great. Greatness is not limited to one particular group on earth.

Second, most of the so-called achievements I see on the list are 'first' in this or 'first' in that. Truth be told, being the first in any venture does not make you great, what makes an ethnic group or country great is the now and the economoic power or influence it has currently. The US is never the first country to be created on earth, neither is it the first country to experience the coming of the white man and civilization (the US originally belonged to the native red Indian ethnic groups before the Europeans landed in about 1492) but yet the US is the greatest nation in the world today. Egypt was once a wold power in its time. The Egyptian civilization was known and admired over the world during its time but today Egypt lives as a shadow of its former self.

Parading oneself as being 'the first to do this' or 'first to do that' is not a measurement of greatness. Here in the western world, people would laugh at you if you try to parade yourself as best because 'you are the first in this or that'. Look at the black race for example. Biologically speaking, blacks are said to be the first people on earth before other races. Of course, some blacks can take pride in being the first on earth but you me know that that does not make you the greatest in the whole world. Egypt, Rome, Spain, Britain etc. were all world powers or wielded influence in the world at one time or the other at different points in history but today these countries cannot be said to be great neither do they go about parading themselves as greatest for being the 'first to do this or that'. I find this inclination to reason quite laughable.

Just as Yorubas have been the first to achieve or attempt some things, the Igbos equally have been the first in many other fields of endeavours. However, the status of greatest today in normal terms will be given to who has the greater influence, economically, politically, socially, financially etc. in today's scheme of affairs.

Life is all about competition and one thing is sure in life - change. People, countries, nations etc all compete to outdo one another and the ensuring factor that determines one's greatness is the power or influence you hold today, and not 'the one you held in the past'. Probably in some couple hundreds of years, another country may overtake the US in being a world power and US would definitely not go around parading itself as 'greatest nation on earth'.
