I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
1 Timothy 2 : 12

Bible tells women to keep their mouths shut. Why are there Christian women here trying to teach religion? ?

the lines you have quoted, are most of times interpreted out of context!before the advent of early church, men and women sat apart in synagogues!synagogues had partitions the same way mosques do today...now judaism commande men and women to worship apart...and this same worship method was used by the early church!born again women felt more free in their churches...after they had dropped down the yoke of judaism!and even had the courage to ask questions while the word was being served...now in order to tacke down noisy women, paul had to write down those verses!he meant they should be quiet during sermon and if they happen to have questions, they could wait until they went to their homes where husbaods could answer them!paul did not mean could not preach...just take a look at all the women in the epistle who worked harder to spread the word...lydia,doricas

were did you keep your thinking cap ? If we are to go by your explanation, women cannot talk or pray in the church ? If women are bless by the gift of prophecy, they should not assume leadership or authority over the men, that's what paul is saying.

Surah 2:223: “Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will.”

How can Allah compare the husband’s dominion over his wife’s body to that of a piece of land? Is there no mutual respect for each other’s body in the relationship between a husband and a wife in Islam?
Qur'an 56:35-38
Lo! We have created them a (new)
creation, And made them virgins,
Lovers, friends, For those on the right
hand;

Abu Umama narrated: "The
Messenger of God said, 'Everyone that
God admits into paradise will be
married to 72 WIVES; two of them
are houris and seventy of his
inheritance of the [female] dwellers
of hell . All of them will have
libidinous sex organs and he will have
an ever-erect penis.' "
Sunan Ibn Majah, Zuhd (Book of
Abstinence) 39

If a man gets seventy-two virgins in
Paradise, will he really have time for
his wife?

That passage you quoted used the phrase 'assume authority' which the Authorised version translates as Usurp authority:

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

1 Tim. 2:12
This means that a woman's activity in the church must be under the authority of, and subject to the man.

An example of somebody who was guilty of the verse in question is Jezebel mentioned in Revelations:

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Revelations 2:20

I love your explanation more.

Bottom line is the verse tells us women must keep quiet in these matters.

1 Corinthians 14
34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1 Timothy 2
9. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

My brother, here is what liberates women from Jewish law you stated.

For you are all children of God through FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS.

And all who have been UNITED WITH CHRIST IN BAPTISM HAVE PUT ON CHRIST, like putting on new clothes.

There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, THERE IS NEITHER MALE NOR FEMALE.

For you are all one in Christ. And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs and God's promises to Abraham belongs to you "Galatians 3:26-29"

So, my fellows. In Christ, there is no gender discrimination!

As you know there is no limit to what someone can do if one is carrying covenant God made with Abraham regardless of gender

Shalom!

That's all fine and dandy, but does nothing to address the issue of the Bible telling women clearly not to teach. We know God is not the author of confusion. My question is in light of this why are Christian women here trying to teach. Perhaps they are ignorant of their book, or perhaps they believe it not.
