Original Title: Reps Want el-Rufai barred from Public Office!

Looks like el-Rufai is in for a little [I]wahala[/I][I][trouble][/I]. The House of Representatives are barring him from public office for 50 years because of his role in the Nitel/Pentascope imbroglio.

Five others were also affected. They are:
[list][li]Legal consultants Udo Udoma & Bello Osagie[/li]
[li]Price Water House Cooper (a financial consultancy company) who were indicted and told to refund the contactual fees for dereliction of duties.[/li]
[li]Vincent Maduka (immediate past Director-general of NITEL)[/li]
[li]Mssrs Bernard Verr and Asinugo were also banned from holding public office.[/li][/list]El-Rufai was accused of perjury and forgery.

I sincerely believe El Rufai has been too high-handed in the way he takes decisions of national interest. But he's not at fault, afterall he still enjoys the presidential immunity.

No matter what any body says about el-Rufai, i quickly want you to know in case you never knew that there are some sacred cows in our nation today,and i think he is one of them,so i don't think those allegations will move him an inch.

The house of Representatives cannot just sit down and pronounce that these men has been banned. There are legal ways to do it. There are laws in this country and the law must be followed.

I wonder if its possible to bar someone you cannot even remove as a minister!

i do agree that a solution needs to be found to that seeming ineradicable fellow. it has finally become common knowledge that the man is simply helpin himself like evrybody else. But surely this sabre rattling and grandstanding by the House is not the solution. The question we shld ask ourselves is can el rufai be legally banned from holding public office without an enabling law? methinks if the House is serious, it knows the way to the police and the various anti corruption bulldogs of our dear OBJ

The antics of the national assembly is a classical example of voodoo politics. Shame on them! Corruption is the major problem in Nigeria, and it demands a strategy that will reach far and wide. Banning some bureaucrats out of vendetta is even worse that any offenses these guys might have committed. Beer parlor mentality only breeds mediocrity.

I dont know him, but i think he (El Rufai) is more a professional than a politician, please correct me if i am wrong.
