Johns Hopkins hospital is set to carry out the first penile transplant in the United States on a former U.S. soldier who was wounded in the Afghanistan war. The transplant will be carried out by Dr. Richard Redett, a plastic surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital and it will be done in a few weeks. They already have an organ to be used which was donated by a recently deceased man.

According to medical literature, there have been two penile transpalnts in the world. The first was carried out in China in 2006 but was unsuccessful. The second, which is the only successful case of penile transplant, was carried out in South Africa in 2014.

Now, the question is do you think the world is ready for this form of medical advancement? What about the emotional trauma that is attached to this type of surgery? Will it be worth it at the end of the day?
