Firstly, for a change of name for an existing registered company (post-incorporation). There are quite a number of obligation that must first be fulfilled before CAC can effect the changes.
1. Have the company paid Annual Returns up to date.

2. A special resolution must be raised by the board of directors of the said company, stating reason for the change of name and the new proposed company name.

3. A new name search & availability must be initiated and the proposed new company name must be approve by CAC, the new approved company name must be filed along all other relevant documents.

4. An application for change in company name must be raise as well.

5. The prescribed fees must be paid.

6. Remember it must be filed by an accredited agent or a director in the company.

Secondly, change of director is almost the same procedure, just that the resolution will be an ordinary resolution. There will be application for CTCs. It is quite similar as the first application.

How can I resolve this query from CAC. They asked me to do the following

1. Upload CAC Filing receipt
2. Date and witness memo

Wow! My business name was registered successfully yesterday. I started on 13th of july,and it got registered on 17th of july,excluding the weekends,which i did'nt do anything in that regards,time to start processing my tax identification number. @hayzed1090 from experience,if you are registering a business name,you need to convert your scanned documents to pdf,before uploading,if you have done that and uploaded,make sure you click on submit,the status of the uploaded document will change to processing,after that stage if everything is done well,you will get registered.

The truth is that you will not get any mail notification or text confirmation for submitting your business name application. It is until CAC approve & issue you a BN or RC number, thats when you will get an Email notification stating that your company have been duly registered with a BN number.

To confirm after submission, kindly go back to the site of document upload, insert the serial number on approval note and check from time to time. If it is successful, it will be showing either processing or approved. Processing means it is yet to be approved while approved means it is newly approved but yet to get BN or RC number.

I don't thiink you need a consent code to register a business name unless you are registering a name with investments,mutual funds, securities or bank. With this names included you will need authorization from relevant regulatory agencies (eg CBN, SEC etc).

I will like to also categorically say that a (promoters, proprietors, directors etc) should be mindful of their nature of business or objectives. Names like Education (NCE for Primary, B.Ed for Secondary and M.Ed for Post Secondary Schools), Advertising & Marketing will need APCON certification, Engineering or Construction will need COREN etc. There are more and others included.

Names like Marine, Sea Transport & any business on sea will need at least 25 million shares capital. Acting as trustees in a Limited will need 10 million shares, like that and so on.

The truth is that care must be the watchword when filling CAC forms, so as not to be on the queried side of the Commission.
