President John Dramani Mahama will review a national parade of school children, voluntary organisations and security services at the Black Star Square to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of our Independence. Ghana @59 Celebration is anchored on the theme: "Investing in the Youth for Ghana's Transformation." President John Dramani Mahama, will deliver the Independence Anniversary Address after a march past by security personnel and school children, drills and equipment display by the security agencies and performances by various groups. The parades in all regional and district capitals across the country have began while the country's missions abroad will also host National Day events across the world. The pictures below shows: The parade in Cape Coast with some party faithfuls of the governing NDC marching. The Celebration in the Volta region. As part of the celebration in the Volta region, some teachers will be awarded for distinguishing themselves. Some of the gifts to be given to the teachers. The 59th Independence celebration of Ghana is underway with the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama and the Vice President in attendance. The President of Guinea-Bissau Jose Mario Vaz and President Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya have joined President John Mahama at the Black Star Square to mark Ghana’s 59 years of independence from colonial rule. The President and his guests are being treated to a variety of performances - dance, gymnastic, masquerades, marches and military and police displays. One can see some expatriates tapping their feets and shaking their heads in sync with the tune playing at the background. The all-female riders of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service clad in their beautiful outfit led by their Commander ASP Hajia Mohammed Sahadatu who is also the head of Nima Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit wowed everybody. Some of the riders are in the Flagstaff as dispatch riders. The leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress is in attendance led by the Chairman of the party, Kofi Porturphy. The leadership of the Parliament has attended led by Rt. Hon. Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho and the leadership of both the Majority caucus and the Minority caucus. The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo is also in attendance flanked by the acting Chairman of the party, Freddie Blay and the flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet. The former Presidents of the Republic of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings are in attendance with their families.
