Meet The UNILAG
Physics Graduate
Who Built The
Change Of Period
Alarm System For
Secondary Schools

Adebayo Timileyin Philip is a
corps member from Lagos
Mainland local government. He
is a graduate of Applied Physics
(Electronics) from University of
Lagos.
As part of the obligations of all
corps members to develop their
community as directed by the
National Youth Service Corps,
Adebayo Timileyin Philip
intention is not just to donate
material provisions but also to
consolidate the knowledge of
student in his community. This
motivated him to contribute to
the development of this great
nation scientifically by
embarking on a Personal
Community Development Service
Project.
Just four months ago, he started
the design of “Change of Period”
Alarm System, this involves
writing programs for micro-
controllers. He selected “Herbert
Macaulay Senior Girls High
School” as the beneficiary of his
innovation as the display of his
strong support to the World
campaign on women equity.
In an interview with him, he
said,
"The change of period Alarm
system was designed to replace
the old conventional method of
notifying student of the change in
school activity. I programmed
this device using the school time
table."
This project was accomplished
without personal funds as it only
required his intellectual
resources. After this crafty
design, he solicited for funds
from Dr. Henry Boyo (D. Sc.
Fukuoka) of the Hardware
Development Laboratory, Physics
Department University of Lagos.
Dr. Henry Boyo is also the patron
of the School that benefited from
this innovation.
“I had visited the school Several
times to monitor the maintenance
of the project and I see relief on
the face of the school time
Keeper” he added
The project “Change of Period”
Alarm System did not just bring
innovative development to the
school but it also encourages the
student to embrace the study of
science and technology. He
however accomplished this
through indulging the full
participation of the students in
the design and fabrication and
installation processes.
In conclusion, he said;
"I implore Lagos and other States
Ministry of Education to also
provide similar device for other
secondary schools in Nigeria"
