Anyone heard of this movie? http://www.theamazinggracefilm.com Made in nigeria by Jeta Amata, the movie is about the history of the hymn, Amazing Grace. Turns out its roots are from Calabar.

Anyway, it is supposed to be out this year and I don't know if i missed it. Amata looks to have done a good job here and I'd like to know if anyone has watched it.

for once a film [not home video] is shot in nigeria by nigerians.

The film actually made it to the last film festival in Cannes and the premier was shown at Abuja last month, a friend told me that it's being shown at Silverbird Galleria , hope to go and watch it soon.

the movie is currently running in nu metro cinemas, lagos.

That's one Nigerian film out of so many that I'm proud of especially with the attention it has gained in the international scene. I hope the film will be a challenge for other film makers in the industry. Nigeria's music industry has gone through a lot of improvement lately so it's good for the film industry to grow as well. Let Nollywood really emulate the standards this film seems to portray! Jeta Amata, well done!

This movie was shown in the African Filmfestival (Africa in the Picture) for three days in the Netherlands. Too bad I missed it I did not even know they were showing a Nigerian movie produced by a Nigerian. I hope they will be renting them in videostores which I doubt Maybe they are selling the movie online, I hope so!

Finally! A movie that shows there are still sensible, intelligent Nigerian people producing n directing Nigerian movies fit to compete with any other foreign movie, be it at Cannes or anywhere.

It has also seperated the veterans from those retarded directors.

The first time i saw the preview of the movies i was like men its a MUST watch cos it looked TIGHT,
it believe its going to stand out as a NIGERIAN FILM not HOME VIDEO,
the AMATA family has been a force in the movie industry KUDOS to them

Kudos to Donald Duke too. He cordinated this, dreamt the idea and them assembled the right mix of hands, irrespective of tribe, colour, state of origin, creed and religion to do the right job. Surely, we need this kind of spirit to lift this country from the woods.

Yeah, Duke first brought up the idea of amazing grace then worked with these guys to promote it, like a huge advert for cross river state. lke the gulder race was for obudu. we need this guy in aso rock

the premiere was held in Nu Metro, the Palms shopping mall, Lekki, Lagos on Thursday, the 19th of October, 2006, and BELOVED, I was privileged to attend. it was strictly by invitation, and my cousin (whose name appears first on this VIP list) got me the invites, lol, i got two actually, and went with one of my friends, and believe me, it was a night to remember,

the "who is who" of the film industry, VIPs and Dr & Mrs. Donald Duke were also in attendance,
Lou Akande (son of Chief Harry Akande, the business mogul), dakore egbuson, sasha, Kenny , D-one, ID on the street, chidi mokeme, Ego (Lagbaja's singer), the Amatas and sooo many others were in attendance.

the film is a must-watch, cos it reveals another side of the slave trade era that not even "Roots" showed.
and whether u believe it or not, amazing grace is our very own song, the song of the Calabar people,,,, and we may be more cunning than the whites, but they have always been faster and smarter than us, want to know why i said dat

The people behind the Nigerian one should sue them

If anyone is going to sue, I think it's the other way round. The Hollywood Amazing Grace movie was pribably under development for a longer time, so they have more of a right to sue. Making a good movie is what's important.
