Gumi Advises Buhari To Reverse Tough Economic Policies by leonbob: 11:00am On Mar 08, 2016 |
- Sheikh Ahmad Gumi says Buhari needs to reverse economic policies – The Islamic cleric says Dasuki does not deserve to be detained Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for the current economic hardship and has warned the president to reverse the austere measures he has taken in order to make Nigerians happy. In an interview with Leadership, the Kaduna-based cleric also spoke on the continued detention of Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser and other officials who served during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. He said they were only errand boys and that putting them in prison was against the principle of justice. ‘‘Of course there is the oil glut and the price has gone down but still, half of the problem is because of the government policies on the economy. I’ve heard one of the economists say, one, there is no clear-cut economic blueprint by the government. “Secondly, people will be so surprised that to know that during Jonathan’s regime, a lot of money was brought out from the government’s coffers and distributed widely across the country and this improved the circulation of currency among the populace. “So, what Nigeria needs now is not just to tighten the mouth but to spend more judiciously on even the private sector. There are airlines that are collapsing, give them a lot of soft loans, banks are collapsing, give them money. What truly Nigeria needs now is first aid. Let food be cheap and available, let fuel be cheap and available, let education be a priority.” He urged President Buhari to stick to the constitution which makes every suspect innocent until proven guilty. He said it would be unjust to arrest former president, Jonathan as the circumstances surrounding the supposed misappropriation of fund were not clear to anyone. “Dasuki was the NSA, an adviser to the president and was directly responsible to the president, so I think detaining Dasuki for even one second for whatever he did, is wrong and unfair. God is not unjust,” he said. Gumi recently caused a stir when he claimed Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria of running a parallel government in the North for 40 years. https://www.naij.com/756174-sheikh-gumi-blames-buhari-economic-problem-issues-warning.html |
