Diego Simeone would transform Real Madrid into Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and then add in greater legs and relentless pressing out of possession. It would be very ugly to watch very un-Real Madrid.

That intense team ethic of Simeone would likely spell the deathknell for the last traces of the Galacticos project. Players like Isco, James and probably Kroos in Madrid’s engine room would likely be on borrowed time. In fact, there’s a good chance only Modric, Ronaldo, Bale would linger on though possibly Benzema and maybe Ramos and Varane would survive Simeone’s axe.

However, we’ll never quite know what might happen as this is the most hypothetical of hypothetical questions.

Simeone is synonymous with Atletico and such a switch would be akin to Guardiola managing in Madrid or Mourinho switching to Barcelona at this time. It is a funny old game, football, but Simeone to Real Madrid would be a sidewinder of epic proportions – Spain’s version of Mo Johnston to Rangers, Ashley Cole to Chelsea or Sol Campbell to Arsenal.
