The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has said it has admitted more than 20,000 fresh undergraduate and postgraduate students across its 72 centres nationwide, promising to pursue quality assurance excellence through the National University Commission’s Benchmark for Academic Standards (BMAS).

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdalla Adamu, who took part in the matriculation ceremony at the institution’s Mushin Centre in Lagos at the weekend, said the initiative would be achieved by reviewing the university’s curricular and streamlining them with approved guidelines in every discipline. Adamu noted that it would take into consideration, new academic narratives that were more accessible through institutional sharing and collaboration around the globe.
Adamu added that the initiative would also introduce and enhance more student-based input on the study centres as well as decentralise examination processing to reduce incidences of missing results and others.
According to him, despite the challenges NOUN was facing, many of them highly exaggerated, it had not deterred young Nigerians who year for quality education from making the bold decision of making the institution their choice.

one would naturally think that the quality of education should be present before admitting 20,000 students BUT NOT AT NOUN, THEY ADMITX BEFORE EVEN PROMISING QUALITY EDUCATION...... I just wonder how Nigeria keeps moving by placing the cart before the horse...

My boss's driver cannot make a correct sentence; he cannot operate a computer or any Information Communication technology gadget successfully, yet he is in final year at NOUN, where he studies Information Communication/Systems Technology and calls himself an Engineer. It's really pathetic.

If you attended a conventional University, and maybe running a program in NOUN, you will agree with me that NOUN is an academically disciplined institution.

Any graduate from NOUN with 1st class or second class upper must be a sound personality with unrivaled intellectual prowess.

Your result speaks, let him graduate first. It will show in his certificate. That doesn't mean many among his mates are not sound.

It is not peculiar to NOUN alone. Most government universities have this problem.

One of those people who must find anything to say to discredit NOUN i see? Did the statement by the chancellor imply that NOUN does not have quality and would seek to provide quality in the future, or that NOUN will seek to continue to improve on its quality?

You don't need a professor to teach you that typing "is" instead of "he" was a typographical error. However, the error is regretted. Meanwhile, check your own English and correct yourself accordingly.
