Cholesterol builds up in the arteries and neck region as we age along, thereby increasing our risk of cardiac failure, strokes and untimely death. This therefore calls for a greater concern to the treatment and control of Cholesterol to prevent future cardiac diseases and premature death worldwide. Research has shown that patients who currently depend on cholesterol lowering medicines are not completely treated and stands a risk of future heart disease.

According to reports millions of people who suffers cardiac problems could be treated with the right drugs and diet if administered properly. But unfortunately cholesterol- lowering treatment is poorly utilized due to lack of awareness programs and the fear of sight effects. We hope that this little piece will be of help to patients with high cholesterol and non patients to take cognizance on how to control their cholesterol level. Before we proceed lets have a proper knowledge about cholesterol.

WHAT IS CHOLESTEROL?

Cholesterol is simply a fatty substance that circulates in blood and is an important structural substance in all human cells. The liver produces about 75% of cholesterol while the food we eat produces 25% cholesterol which is being circulated round the body system. Cholesterol are categorized under the good and bad cholesterol. Notably, we have the High level of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) which is been categorized under the “bad” cholestrol associated with an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. And increased levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, categorized under the “good” cholesterol, which offers protections against heart attack and stroke. Note that, the sum of all type of cholesterol you receive after a blood test is the total cholesterol value.

PROBLEMS CAUSED BY CHOLESTEROL.

It is of no doubt that the body needs cholesterol for it proper functions, but increased cholesterol can lead to cholesterol deposits within the walls of the artries which further causes artherosclerosis. This plaque grows over time and burst open in the arterial walls leading to the formation of blood cloth. This blockage restricts oxygen from circulating to the muscles of the heart and brain, causing heart attack and stroke.

DANGERS OF HIGH CHOLESTEROL.

Discoveries has it that people suffering from increased cholesterole are prone to future heart attack and death. Due to the high risk of arterial blockage developed by total cholesterol, national guidelines now have it that people should know their LDL and HDL in order to prevent untimely death and cardiac arrest.

I still dont know why this topic can not hit the front despite how educative it was...
However i bless the name of the lord because i was able to know and understand this silent killer called cholesterol
