I'm just about purchasing a Nigerian used vehicle and the seller is removing the number plate already registered for this particular vehicle.Please is this the right procedure?
What documents is the selling owner required to give to me? Would the seller be required to give me the receipt of allocation of registration number and plate number receipt,even though he's removing the number plate? How do I get the certificate of change of ownership? How do I get the CMR?
I know I'm supposed to collect up to date vehicle licenses, roadworthiness certificate and insurance certificate from the selling owner.

I'm a little confused here and don't want any police or frsc issues. Can someone experienced in vehicle (registration) matters kindly break it down for me. Thanks and God bless you as you save me from any "wahala".

The numbered plate belongs to d seller, so it is his right to remove it before selling d car to u.

Once u buy d car, u will need to get a change of ownership and plate replacement to get ur own plate n ur names n info on d vehicle documents.

The seller is to provide u with d following documents to aid u in processing ur own plate n docs:

1) allocation of plate registration
2) proof of ownership
3) up to date vehicle license
4) purchase receipt, seller id

this is all u need. let me know if u need more clarification.

change of ownership is d process u take in getting ur names and information on ur acquired vehicle documents, while proof of ownership is d certificate issued to u after having gone thru d process. its proof dat shows u now owns d said vehicle. the ownership will transfered from d seller to u, the buyer.

Talking about plate number. Assuming I sell my car but retained my plate number, if I get another car, can I just screw my old plate number in or will I still process another number?
If I can use my old plate number, is it as simple as screwing it in or will I go through some process?

some process r required to use ur already acquired number plate on another vehicle of urs. remember d chassis, engine no, maybe colour, make etc, of d new vehicle will not be same wt dat on d docs.
