The Nigerian government has announced an ambitious plan to send an astronaut to the moon by 2030. This was disclosed by the minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu during a speech in Abuja recently.
The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has launched five satellites since 2003 with three still in orbit delivering vital services for communication, weather monitoring, security, etc. The minister disclosed that Nigeria will partner with China to develop its capability for the project. This will make Nigeria the first black nation on earth to send an astronaut to the space.

Great news for the nation.

Lol
I feel so sorry for the scape goat or unfortunate astronaut that will be inside that made in Nigeria rocket.
The guy will be lost in space just like the previous 2 satellites that were never seen again after they were launched from Nigerian soil.

But This new administration can dream. Just look out their impossible dreams

-We will make N1 = $1

-We will prosecute and jail all corrupt persons

-There will be no more queues at filling stations

-We will give N5000 to all unemployed Nigerians

-We will give all primary school kids breakfast and lunch

And now they want to send a man to the moon.

Let us for once be optimistic about this prospect. This research in space technology will ultimately result in great strides for Nigerians. Lot of discoveries will be made which will help to improve our lives. Come to think of it: do you thin that America government spent billions of dollars for the fun of it for it space research? Do you you think that the international space station is for ego purposes? A lot of scientific discoveries were made from this outlets in medicine, engineering etc. for example, do you know that America has pioneered the making of clean drinking water from toilet waste water and this is among the water astronaut are drinking at the International space station.

Nigeria can learn alot from this venture.

Nigeria does have to build a rocket to send an astronaut into space.

Joke of the century.

We don't even have One observatory in Nigeria, Just one observatory just 1 like this .. tiny winny 1.

And this daft minister of Joke and comedy ministry is talking about sending Astronauts to space.

We don't even have a healthy astronomical/cosmological agency, Physics and Astronomy in Nigerian universities are joke to other foreign universities..

We'd prefer poking around temples, churches and mosques getting brain clogged with undiluted myths and legends.

He should first talk about a good science background in our schools.

top notch up to date scientific discoveries and knowledge should be added to our school curriculum.

Get observatories in Nigeria.

Develop a Physics and Astronomical agency and join the other nations in developing cosmological knowledge.

Open a ground for free thinking and scientific importance and draw a line between Our science and religious beliefs.

Only then can Nigeria move a little bit further.

About sending Astronauts to space, its not about just going to space to poke around and fall back to earth.

It's a further step in development of astronomical knowledge, so its not about planning to pay engineers from other counties to make our rockets and launch for us just to pay a visit to space.

It's about knowing what you are doing there and not just visit for visiting sake...

Space travel is not an achievement if you have no reason or purpose to go there!
