2011 Elections Will Be Bloody, says Dg Sss by Nobody: 2:33pm On Jul 31, 2009
Director General of the state security service(sss) Gadzama Afakriya has revealed that the coming elections in 2011 maybe bloody. He made the warning on thursday at an interactive session with the House of Reps committee on National security & Police Affairs that the rate of kidnapping, armed robbery, sectarian clashes & endless importation of arms into the country may make the coming elections bloody. He noted that the way the government ignores security reports would also worsen general insecurity in the country. He revealed that his agency had never failed to issue security warning notices on impending troubles in all flashpoints but regretted that not much was being done to avert such crisis. He said that information on kidnapping in south east, attack on atlas cove in lagos, the jos crisis & the latest violence in some part of the northern region had been passed to the appropriate quarters. He blamed the problems of insecurity in the country on the fallout of the political system that disconnected the people from the govt & the porous leaders.Giving an example of Anambra state,Gadzama said there was a large influx of arms in the hands of thugs which according to him gave rise to kidnapping & violent robbery. The attitude of displaying wealth & govt's inability to carry the people along also contributed to the state of insecurity not only in the south east but in other parts of the country. He warned that ending the crisis in the Niger delta would not put an end to violence in the region as there is the need to strengthen security agencies in the areas of provision of working tools & improved service conditions. The sss boss pointed to the jos mayhem, attack on atlas cove & Boko Haram as classical examples of slow reactions to curtail violence due to disconnect among security agencies, How wil the 2011 elections be since sss is warning us of the dangers ahead.
