Private Or Public School Which Is Better? by Ifebazz(m): 6:15pm On Apr 11, 2016
I am having this argument with my wife regarding which schools our children should attend. Although I have my mind made up based on first hand experience I have with some schools, I really need advice on the part to toll.
She is of the opinion that private schools are better, I have my own reservations. Even if I bulge, I don't think I'll let them go to private secondary schools. I may be wrong hence I need some of your own inputs.
Please house, what's your take on it?

I don't mind them going to private at the primary level, but I think public is the way from secondary upwards.

Private is better, both primary and secondary. Public should be better, but that was those days when education was still taken seriously by d govt.

And when i say private, i dont mean anyhow private. I mean a fully govt approved standard private school.

private is and will always be the best. Anytime anywhere.

Why do you say so? What are your reasons, not just this is better than the other?

Of course the public schools would have their own advantages too right?

My take is, truly the private schools get all the fuzz, pampering, neat environment, phonetics and good 'internal' results but how do they compare with the public schools in external exams like WAEC, GCE, NECO & UME (of course without their 'miracles centres')? Apart from the phonetics and neat appearances what else educationally do they offer better than the public schools?
We are all so quick to look down on public schools nowadays, but how many people have bothered to check out the qualifications of the teachers in private schools? I know the minimum for a public school is NCE, but the unemployment situation has upped that to BSc and even MSc. I don't think that holds seriously for the private schools.
Again is the remuneration of the teachers. The minimum wage is about N18,000 of which we all know that no public school teacher earn any near that region (say upwards of N40,000) but I can categorically tell you that, apart from the highest brow private schools, the average salary of teachers in private schools is less than the minimum wage. So how then do we expect the best from someone who is always submitting his resumé for a better job?
Yes, public school teachers have negligence as their major setbacks, given 'a change' oriented APC/Buhari government, that would change innit?
In all I'd say children could attend private primary schools but once they can start fending for themselves, better move them to public schools.
