IMO GETS NEW UNIVERSITY AS EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY OGBOKO IS LICENSED BY NUC

Yesterday (13th April 2016) in the National University Commission, NUC, Gov Rochas Okorocha received the operating license to a brand new university, Eastern Palm University, Ogboko in Ideato South, Imo State; a Private - Public Partnership between the Imo State Government and some stakeholders.

Imo State is a state known for producing the highest amount of JAMB candidates in Nigeria with few chances to take them owing to the few number of universities in the state.

With the granting of the license to operate to the Eastern Palm University, Imo indigenes can now heave a sigh of relief as chances of gaining admission in the university has increased.

which private investors? You talk as if you don't know how this politicians run things in this country.. Those investors are just used as a front by the governor. He just wanna use Imo state resources to build his private university while still on seat. Same thing Oshiomole did in Edi State.

Yeah....this is possible. Very possible. When I read about his office getting a licence to operate a private university, it occurred to me that he is very likely going to be a stakeholder in it.

Haha. Build a private university in your village using state resources. Put some friends as "private investors" who obviously wont invest anything. Run down imo state university to the ground. In 2019, assume control of your new university after your investor friends sell their stake to you for 1 naira. Welldone daddy rochas!

All these states playing catch up, how much do they generate to cover the running cost of these schools? They are opening schools everyday and hoping the Abuja allocation will not stop flowing.

No proof yet but there some salient questions that begs for answer which makes my assertion 90% correct. Why will a governor partner with an investor to build a new University where as the current one owned by the State is on strike (as at last week) because of lack of funds?

what's all these nonsense, gej opened universities in about 9states, this okorocha too opening another in the name of one nonsensical nonsense called ppp, do they think running of university na beans, if they feel like having a ppp, why not amend imsu law to reflect it, this NUC too will just be dashing out license as if na alms to the needy, how much grants have they compelled university owners (private or public) to make provision for towards R & D, human capacity building, students right on campus, etc. what are they doing to ensure maximization of the current school facility. I make bold to say only unilag is currently utilizing 1/2 of its space, other schools are just like 1/6 with fallow land everywhere, no academic, agricultural or research activity going on on such land.

Somehow Okorocha is definitely among the private investors as it is situated in his village. The school is turning out beautiful but I almost thought he would move IMSU there. I trust the man as the school might be a free University while IMSU will start paying fees. That way some people will come to appreciate what they were enjoying at IMSU.

If you were from Imo you would understand the whole politics. IMSU is a poorly sited University which the host zone has resisted every attempt to move it to a more befitting site as well as spread development. With this new University which the structures are almost completed IMSU will be relegated to the background. Most Imolites from Orlu zone have always wanted IMSU moved to Orlu but Owerri zone has resisted but now Orlu will have 1, Okigwe already has ABSU though in Abia State now while Owerri has IMSU.
