I'M JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS. After some days away from school, I reported back to campus today to see a notice pasted at the entrance of Mini Campus, Opposite the Post Office at the main gate. I was overwhelmed with sympathy. I took on the shoe of empathy, then, the confusion took me up like a garment and the pity of tomorrow engulfed my feeble mind. I wondered what would be the nature of Nigerian communities at nearby future. Oh! 54 students were expelled just like that in a day? The result of 4 or 5 years in this hot Gwax would be expulsion? Does that mean no other means to punish students than expulsion? What do you think would be the fate of such Youth in this fidgeting country? After years of thunderous rain! After years of scorching sun! After years of frightening storm! After years of freezing harmattan! After squatting in a room with other 10 squatters in a room meant for 5 students? After jumping through Shuttle's Windows just to meet up with test or exams in Psite! The man finally becomes hopeless and useless to himself. If a youth is thrown out of school because of misdeed? Who will now orientate or chastise the youth to be a conformist? Have they forgotten that frustration might lead to aggression? And aggressiveness could born rascality? If Nigeria University Commission does not know, this is time they should know, a student that is thrown out of school for malpractices will either become a vagabond around Campuses or even become a dreadful miscreant in the extended society. We are just trying to breed more criminals in already dwindling terrain. I'm only suggesting that suspension' punishment or payment of fines as punishment might be of help than forcefully making people to be hopeless. Hopeless situation leads to frustration, a frustrated person becomes touchy, a bellicose individual becomes a deviant. Then, the crime rates continue to fly higher. I don't support examination malpractices, but I'm supporting other punishments apart from expulsion. Expelling students can only proliferate the numbers of youths' criminality in Nigerian society. witty. |

I don't support exam malpractice, I believe in working hard, but if you would set the standard so high it should be in all ramifications, lecturers that do not teach effectively should be expelled!!! Lecturers that makes learning uncomfortable for student should be expelled!! Students that are with soundness of mind should be given questionnaires about their lecturers, such evaluation should be used to expel or suspend lecturers, either for a semester, a year or indefinitely!!!! |
