In view of the recent loses incurred in our football, the problems of poor sports administration which is so rampant in Nigeria is brought to the fore. Nigerians know what to do to succeed and they have proven themselves outside the shores of the country, but some individuals and section interest groups are bent on simply collecting allocations from FG and spending it. Of course the LMC has achieved some successes in recent times It also occurs to me that this country has what you can called comparative advantage in every of life endeavors. For example when it comes to sports men and women we can say that Delta State come in top 3, having won several National Sports Competition and having produced high numbers of athletes. Also in the 90s, Nigerian youths began to go to Europe for sports employment, esp in the area of football. We have the JJ Okochas, Kanu Nwankwos from the SE. So we can also say that those Easterners have better individual football skills. But how about sports administration in Nigeria, esp in football? We see how a lack of long term planning has led to a high turnover of coaches. This is an indication of very poor management skills. So which section of the country are better sports administrators, is it SS, SW, SW OR Northern States? From which part of this country, if any, can boast of better sports managers and planners? Below is a list of past soccer administrators in recent time courtesy of an online social media: Tony Ikazoboh 1983 – 1987 John Obakpolor 1987 – 1988 Chuba Ikpeazu 1988 – 1989 Yusuf Ali 1990 – July 1991 Amos Adamu Jun. 1992 – August 1993 Emeka Omeruah 1993 – 1997 Abdulmumini Aminu 1997 – 1999 Kodjo Williams 1999 – 1999 (three months) Dominic Oneya 1999 – 2002 Ibrahim Galadima 2002 – 2006 Sani Lulu 2006 – 2010 Aminu Maigari 2010 – 2014 Amaju Pinnick 2014 till date Who can we pinpoint as achieving the most significant goals during his era? Over to you? Remember all the rules of Nairaland. |
