Nigeria only relies on oil and you expect your economy to grow fast when oil prices has declined? Do you all notice there is no oil producing nation on the list.

Until we diversify our economy will Nigeria witness real growth and not the growth you recorded on paper especially by the last administration.

GoodSonOfGod:
Having enjoyed blissful growth over the past decade, Nigeria was one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but it is not one of the 15 fastest growing economies in Africa for 2016.

In 2014 and early 2015, Nigeria was named the third fastest growing economy in the world by CNNMoney, with China and Qatar, taking the lead at 7.3 percent, 7.1 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth.

Following the 2015 election uncertainty, crash in crude oil price, and prolonged revelation of policy direction by the newly-inaugurated Muhammadu Buhari-led government, Nigeria’s GDP for 2015 crashed to 2.8 percent.

For 2016, however, the coast is cloudy, and Nigeria is nowhere near the fastest growing economies in Africa.

According to the International Monetary Funds (IMF) World Economic Outlook for 2016, as revised in April, the fastest growing economy in Africa for 2016 is Cote d’Ivoire and the slowest is Chad, which is expected to record negative growth.

Cote d’Ivoire is expected to experience an 8.5 percent rise in GDP, while Nigeria’s neighbour, Chad, would see a -0.4 percent growth.
Africa’s Fastest
Country Projected Growth Rank
Cote d’Ivore 8.5% 1
Tanzania 6.9% 2
Senegal 6.6% 3
Djibouti 6.5% 4
Rwanda 6.3% 5
Kenya 6.3% 6
Mozambique 6.0% 7
CAR 5.7% 8
Sierra Leone 5.3% 9
Uganda 5.3% 10
Source: IMF

Cote D’Ivoire (8.5%), Tanzania (6.9%), Senegal (6.6%), Djibouti (6.5%), Rwanda (6.3%), Kenya (6.0%), Mozambique (6.0%),

Central African Republic (5.7%), Sierra Leone (5.3%) Uganda (5.3%).

Madagascar, Zambia and Chad are expected to see a growth of 4.1 percent, 3.4 percent, 3.2 percent respectively.

The fastest growing economies in Africa by GDP growth rate, as projected by IMF for 2016, are: Cote D’Ivoire (8.5%), Tanzania (6.9%), Senegal (6.6%), Djibouti (6.5%), Rwanda (6.3%), Kenya (6.0%), Mozambique (6.0%), Central African Republic (5.7%), Sierra Leone (5.3%) and Uganda (5.3%).

DR Congo expects a GDP growth of 4.9 percent, Cameroon; 4.9 percent, Ethiopia; 4.5 percent, Ghana; 4.5 percent and Republic of Congo; 4.4 percent.

Madagascar, Zambia and Chad are expected to see a growth of 4.1 percent, 3.4 percent, 3.2 percent respectively.

Major oil exporters, Angola and Nigeria, hard hit by the slump in crude oil prices, are projected to see a growth 2.5 and 2.3 percent.

At 2.3 percent, Nigeria is expected to see its poorest GDP growth since the return of Democracy in 1999.

This development has become a point of concern for the IMF, and the World Economic Forum (WEF), which would be having its meeting on Africa later in May.

“It is important to recognize the challenges that many African economies face – the commodities slump, currency devaluations and geo-security risks all threaten growth,” WEF explained.

The Forum says its May meeting will highlight the need for diversification in order to ensure inclusive economic growth, tapping into the fourth industrial revolution’s potential to create new industries and help reduce inequality across the continent.

The World Economic Forum on Africa 2016 will take place in Kigali, Rwanda from 11-13 May.

Our politics especially as youths has to go beyond Buhari vs GEJ, APC vs PDP, north vs south, etc. it is one of the shackles dragging us back as a nation.

On the issue of the IMF list, I still maintain it smells fishy. We all know the IMF a strong political tool of the US, and along with the World Bank, a major way it (the US) controls its puppet nations. Only few would fail to note the stark coincidence between the timing of this list and the refusal of the present administration to dance to their tunes just a few months ago.
As in, do you really mean to tell me that you believe Nigeria is not one of the top 5 fastest growing economies in Africa at present, not to talk of a Top 15 list?
When Nigeria was rated well by this same IMF, the than gov't had already gone to China. The USA was not happy. The reality on ground is that things are bad. Virtually every aspect of life in Nigeria is experiencing negative growth.

IMF does not want to borrow you money. All they are asking for is for buhari to stop his voodoo economics.
And yes, your economy is doing very poorly compared to other African countries.
When was the last time Nigeria got a major foreign investment? Or you think economic growth falls from the sky?

the article stated clearly that Nigeria and Angola who have oil as their mainstay of their respective economies are experiencing similar dwindling in their GDP as a result of snowdive in oil price in the international markets..
Jonathan I knew,Buhari I know too, still I dont think this article was aimed at spurring more of financial growth interest or to feud political hatred among Nigerians but IMF's stubborness at making Nigeria to respond to calls for devaluation at her own peril..
if you are still there blaming Buhari for the economic woes that are befalling Nigeria as a nation, then deem it fit to look into those that had befallen Nigeria too.
Both Jonathan and Buhari as well as ex-presidents are to be held responsible for where we are today..so stop singling one out all in the name of blame game..

This list was compiled by IMF? Then it all makes sense.
Suddenly our growth that has been projected to be among the fastest in the world is now no where near the fastest even in Africa?

Maybe if we had accepted the so called IMF advice and loan, we'll be right at the top of their list.
What a display of arrogant idiocy. Naija first approached IMF for loan not the other way round. GMB and his cabinet threw a jamboree patty for Christine Largade when she visited Aso Rock and NASS. IMF gave conditions to give Naija loans.

Ask you previous leaders what they did with IMF loans they had collected in the past! It wasn't IMF that opened offshore accounts where those funds had been stashed. Blame your leaders not IMF

IMF is a bad gauge to measure economic growth, the only economic they know is for you to devalue your currency and borrow from them so you could be at their mercy and they begin to dictate how the government should be ran.

How did the previous ratings help the common man during those years?
Nigeria still borrowed to pay salaries
Nigeria reserves still got depleted
Dollar rose against the Naira
It was still 1 dollar par day for average Nigerians
There was still fuel scarcity
Lacasera still sacked 700workers
We still ran on budget deficit.

I think we should start taking this ratings serious when it can be felt by the average Nigerians.
Because definitely imf ratings hasn't epp Nigeria. The
