Porn & masturbation stimulate our reward centers, because it's a natural part of our physiology & neural circuitry to be attracted to sexual stimuli.

Like anything pleasureful (including food, games, even using the Internet) there is a potential for an addictive habit to form. It's your brain becoming fixated on achieving the reward again & again. The dopamine rush. Chasing rewards used to be (and still is, to an extent) beneficial for our survival, but in the case of addictions, our natural reward centers are hijacked and overstimulated.

Habits/addictions can be difficult to get rid of because of how strongly they can become conditioned in the brain. But an increased awareness of ones inner state, & the ability to observe urges to carry out the behavior without acting on them, are skills one can learn to successfully decondition any unwanted habit (there are many great books on this topic).

I feel like tagging such behaviors as "sin" and insisting that they require "deliverance" only compounds the problem and makes it appear more mysterious and scary than it needs to be. Not to mention it adds an unnecessarily heavy burden of shame. No one needs Jesus or God or any religious rituals to get past these sorts of mental hang ups. All we need is to be educated on how our brains work, and learn how to mold & rewire them in more beneficial ways.

Thank you very much. Almost anything can become addictive when care is not taken, but our religious zealots have invented names for them. Spirit of smoking, spirit of sex, spirit of masturbation e.t.c. Trying to explain to an average Nigerian that there are natural explanations and solutions to most of the things they pray and bind everyday is like teaching a dog to recite poetry. Sighs...

What's going on here? Why was an April 2016 thread brought back to front page? And why were so many posts deleted?

EXACTLY!

Jesus didn't take the punishment of our sins(past, present and future) at the cross on OUR BEHALF so that we can go on and sin more, but to free us by his love and make us serve God in gratitude of his FREE GRACE, without guilt, penalty, condemnation and fear of eternal damnation, even when we are not 100% perfect in good works.

By the grace of God we were saved, not of ourselves, IT IS THE FREE GIFT OF GOD.

How can Jesus take punishment for your future sin. So you will continue to be a sinner?
For your future sin, the punishment is there for you and you will be judged by it.

Roman's 3:25

"
New International Version
God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood--to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--

New Living Translation
For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

English Standard Version
whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

Berean Study Bible
God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand."

Berean Literal Bible
whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a showing forth of His righteousness, because of the forbearance of the sins having taken place beforehand,

New American Standard Bible
whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;"

The problem is most people who try to tell them there are natural solutions also tell them that there is no God. Won't it be better to explain and leave out their spiritual beliefs? Most churches also don't teach looking for solutions beyond the spirit. How can someone be looking for a child for 10 years and no one can encourage her to try IVF or others because it would look like you don't have enough faith?

Well, from my experience, they are usually the ones who raise the god question, not me. Whenever I make any attempt to provide rational and natural explanations to such events, the next thing you hear is...

"Are you trying to say there are no spirits? Or maybe you don't even believe in witches. Oh, don't tell me you too don't believe in god." And ladi ladi ladi la.

I usually try to avoid it as much as possible to make the conversation productive but the truth is, it is almost always impossible. The reason is that, these are people whose believes have been woven around every single aspects of their lives, and one of such is that every darn thing that gives wrong is the devil and demons are responsible. So, any solution that excludes prayer and fasting, e no fit work.

God is good.

But sex is not a sin.
Patronizing prostitûtes is not a sin too.

You are helping someone's business and also satisfying a basic need.

Watching porn is not a sin as long as you take it to be an educative documentary.

A lot of people come here to talk rubbish.

As you're quoting the Bible now, many won't like it.

The truth is, it's not easy to be a Christian if one is to do it by himself, in fact, it's impossible.

All here saying "this and that is no sin" say so because they feel they cannot do without doing
those things.

However, with God, nothing is impossible and all things are possible to those who believe.

Anyone still committing sin has not really believed that he/she can tap into God's divine power
to overcome through grace made available through Jesus.

When porn addiction and masturbation disappeared from my life, it went without a trace.

I had struggled for years, but one day, I watched a programme on TV, prayed along and poof! I have not watched porn or masturbated ever since.

I know it's possible to live without sin, as long as Jesus (who Himself lived without sin) is in charge of my life.

I thank God for this guys life

the reason why people don't like the word of God is because it doesn't say what they like...and its not about what u like it's about what God requires of u you

and that's y u see people talking about why indulging in porn is not a sin or why masturbation is not sin using psychology as their defense mechanism.

people will not know how damaging sin is until God opens their eyes to the reality of it

It takes common sense to do the right thing.Ponography is not wrong, unless it is peadophilic. It is just a way of easing off the tension when it is needed.

Man is a machine with structured mechanism that must be kept spinning. .
