Now that the entire nation (except the cattle owners) has acknowledged that the menace of herdsmen has become unbearable, perhaps the rural folks who bear the brunt of their destruction should take steps to protect themselves, while the lethargic and almost nonexistent government try to get it's act together.

In the next few weeks, we are bound to hear more news and more gory details of how these primitive people invaded a community and slaughter defenseless people. That is as certain as the sun rising from the east. As the villagers cannot acquire guns and ammo, perhaps a more subtle and ingenious approach could be adopted. Here is an interesting piece I just read online about how the poor folks in certain villages in Imo state tackled the problem:

Nekede and Ihiagwa are two neighboring communities in Owerri, hosting the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, and Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Sometime last year, the activities of these Fulani herdsmen became so unbearable with destruction of farms and rapes. The women gathered and thought of what to do to stop these killer Fulani herdsmen wielding AK 47s. In contrast, the women had no gun, knife or any other weapon but their brains.
They came together and reasoned what to do to drive the herdsmen from their communities without firing a shot. They agreed and tasked every woman in the communities to contribute 1 Derica cup of ground pepper each. They brought the pepper together and organized themselves in groups in the night to spread the pepper across all the farms in Nekede and Ihiagwa. The following morning, the marauders came as usual with their cows. Lo and behold, in less than 30 minutes they lost 15 cows because when cows smell or ingest pepper, they die. Immediately the Fulani herdsmen fled with their remaining cows and sanity returned to Nekede and Ihiagwa

So, maybe this method can be put to the test across every region and farmlands that are vulnerable to their incursions. I know I would do everything within my powers to protect crops in my farmland.
In addition to this, it won't be a bad idea to boycott buying beef for the next few months, until their markets get crippled. This step cannot be easy to implement. It will require a lot of effort to get people across the entire south to do this. But the ground pepper seem easier and more practical.
Expecting the federal government to take an ambitious and resolute approach to ending this terror is simply a waste of time. As it is, they are hoping to grab lands mostly in the south, to serve as grazing reserves. This is bound to add fuel to the problem. No doubt. So, before our government and it's unofficial foot soldiers hound us till we go extinct, I think we should give ourselves a fighting chance first.

Tell the women to contribute money and buy (big) guns for their Husbands, Sons and all the Frat boys in the Tertiary Institutions you mentioned because the Fulanis will still come back. Its better you kill a Fulani man, bury his corpse and let his cows roam free than for you to kill his cow and let him be alive to tell his tale to his brothers.

That they have not attacked maybe because they are still working on their escape route.

Biko no need for front page. Infact MODs delete this thread cos we may just be putting innocent villagers at risk. Agents of these Fulani terrorists might just be here.

Use pepper and kill their cows. They will get angrier and kill everybody in the community.

THE PEOPLE IN MY VILLA USED PEPPER TO CHASE THERE COWS ONCE. IF THE COWS INHALE PEPPER THEY GO OUT OF CONTROL. SO IF THEY LOVE THERE COWS THEY WILL STAY AWAY

After the death of their cows, they do return back to fight.

The best approach is to arm boys to fight back any reprisal after the pepper approach.

If the herdsmen know that a regions uses a little pepper in their grasses, they will avoid the area in the first place.

Do you know what the herdsmen now do.? Steal land by invading villages and occupying them.

The best approach is to buy enough arms for everyone and train them on how to use it to drive away these herdsmen

Please don't start trouble that you cannot finish, the pepper will only act as a catalyst to bring about destruction from the Fulani herdsmen who will be armed with "guns"

Pepper last we checked does not magically stop bullets or beheadings.

By far the most effective cow repellant is cow blood, and fresh cow bones, WELL HIDDEN under bushes, or inside stands of bamboo where they cannot be seen.

The smell of that cow blood, especially when it begins to rot, will scare cows into a complete panic, and terrorize them to the extent that they will gather together in a group, lose their appetites completely, and then flee the area for dear life, regardless of how desperately the cow herdsman/terrorist, tries to force them to stay and eat peoples' crops in the area.
