Reasons Why There Are More Teenage Pregnancy by Opistorincos(m): 11:51am On May 03, 2016
In recent times, I have noticed there is an increase in the rate of teenage pregnancies. Do not get me wrong, I am not talking about teenage girls(18-19) that are legally married, my article is about those that are under the same roof with their parents i.e. teens that are not yet independent. Below are some cogent points that might have contributed to this new development;

Poverty: Some parents are poor to the extent of dishing out ten naira (#10) as pocket money to their teenage girls and of course it’s after they might have had their meal. We all know that in this present economy, such amount can do as little as nothing, if such a teenage girl should encounter a sex starved guy that will offer her a thousand naira for her body, she will gladly seal the deal, only a few girls with good moral upbringing will refuse such an offer.

Greed : This is related to the first point, a girl with insatiable wants irrespective of the parent’s financial status will be ready to “eat as much as possible banana” in order to have extra cash to take care of her numerous needs.

Ignorance: Some parents fail properly enlighten their female wards on sex education because they think it is morally wrong to engage a teen in such conversation. Teens that have little or no sex education will end up learning the wrong way.

Peer Influence: Most girls tries as much as possible to avoid the stigma of being tagged an “old school” by their friends who are neck deep into pre-marital sex, thus propelling them to join their league.

I hope this was written by a hobbyist blogger because it was poorly researched. I even doubt it was researched, only conjured from the writer's imagination.

Let me use personal experience to bulk up this article:

No sex education from either parents, guardians or school teachers lead teenagers to naively experiment. Regardless the fact I received sex education it was not enough to stop me from carrying out experiments on my own. I kissed girls, fondled and caressed them and the same was done to me in return. As we aged we tried more daring practices till I was sure I had my act together. After becoming an 'expert' I helped other younger members of the opposite sex 'milk my dragon' to have a feel of being adult.

No enforcement of child sexual protection laws. Here in Nigeria there is hardly an age of consent because every other day in the media you hear of males having carnal knowledge of children. I believe parents and teachers should get enlightened to teach children that any play of adult nature should happen only after the age of 19(or 21 in special cases). I'm always in disgust when I see peers make moves and have intercourse with 17year old females - these are men way past the age of 25 by the way.
For some reason I always fancied girls two years older and above apart from my pubescent years where we all practiced learning our bodies together. I believe adults who defile children whether non-consensual or otherwise should face prison time to deter copycats.
