Man Shot To Death By Fellow Parishioner During Hymns by boujaye: 10:20am On May 06, 2016
An argument about seats during a church service near Philadelphia ended with two gunshots and a dead parishioner, according to authorities.

Mark Storms has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in the fatal April 24 shooting of a fellow churchgoer, Robert Braxton III, at Keystone Fellowship Church in North Wales, Pa.

Braxton “arrived at the service only armed with his Bible,” police wrote in an affidavit. Storms, 46, had a concealed-carry permit, which he showed to Braxton during the argument, police said.

“It is clear the shooter brought a gun to a crowded church, he introduced that gun into a verbal altercation that turned into a fistfight and then fired the gun twice, aiming at the vital part of the body, killing the victim,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele saidStorms, whose next hearing is May 12, remains in custody, with bail set at $250,000. On Tuesday, attorney Benjamin Cooper in the county’s public defender’s office was directed to represent Storms, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.

“Cooper said he will seek a two-week postponement [of the hearing] while he familiarizes himself with the case and talks to Storms,” the newspaper reported.

Detectives interviewed more than 50 witnesses to the incident, many of whom described Braxton as being agitated, using profanity and yelling at others to leave him alone. Several said that he sat down in a row that appeared to have been occupied by others who momentarily left, and that Braxton reacted loudly when someone tapped him on the shoulder. Witnesses said Storms — who is not an usher — approached Braxton after ushers and an associate pastor tried to calm the man down. A row of chairs separated the two men, and several witnesses said Braxton showed a badge and indicated he had a weapon — a 9 mm handgun. ‘We need healing,’ pastor says after fatal church shooting during hymns
