The average Nigerian Christian has either fallen or is enslaved by Presumptuous Sin. Presumptuous Sin. What is a Presumptuous Sin??

A Presumptuous sin is a sin that is caused by foolishly assuming that God's favor will override disobedience to His word.

There are numerous examples all through the bible of presumptuous sins.

Adam and Eve presumed that if they ate of the forbidden fruit that they wouldn't surely die. But when they sinned against God, they were driven from the garden and began to die. They died spiritually when their sin separated them from God, and would die physically in time to come.

Hophni and Phinehas, the two wicked sons of Eli the Priest, foolishly presumed they could take the sacred Ark of the Covenant into battle without a directive from God, and both were killed in the battle as a result of the judgment of God.

Nadab and Abihu, the two sons of Aaron, presumed to offer up strange fire unto God, and fire came out from God and consumed them. Offerings to God must be sanctified and offered with a pure heart, before they will be acceptable to God.

Uzzah presumed he could touch the ark of the covenant to keep it from falling off the cart, and broke God's commandment. This act kindled God's anger and Uzzah was judged by God and immediately struck dead.

King Saul presumed that because he was the King, that he could offer up a burnt sacrifice to God, when God's commandment specifically stated than none but the Priest could offer up the sacrifice. He was not the Priest. God's judgement began to fall upon Saul for his disobedience to God's word.

Later, God gave him another chance. It is said that God is the God of the second chance. Sometimes God, in His mercy, does give a wayward person another chance. However, there is no guarantee that a second chance will come. God is not obligated to give anyone a second chance. Better for us to stay obedient to God's word. To assume that a second chance is forthcoming from God, would be a presumptuous sin.

God directed Saul to slay all of the Amalekites and all the animals that they possessed. This was the judgment by God of a Nation whose people ambushed and killed many of the Israelites when they were coming out of Egypt.Saul circumvented the judgment of God. Saul presumed to disobey God again and brought back King Agag to parade him around as a captive to get glory for himself and allowed the people to bring back the best of the oxen and sheep, presuming that since they said they were going to offer the animals up to God in sacrifice that it was alright to break God's commandment. God rejected him as King of Israel and raised up David to take his place. Saul proved by his disobedience to God that he wasn't fit to lead God's people.

And the list could go on and on. Presumptuous sins have caused many to be judged harshly by God. God help us not to be guilty of assuming we can sin with impunity.

Psalms 19:13 says... "Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins... let them not have dominion over me... then shall I be innocent from the great transgression."

An example of a presumptuous sin would be for one to purposely put his or her life in jeopardy, presuming that God would protect and deliver them. Daniel was delivered by God from the Den of Lions, but his situation was not of his own making. He was put into the den of Lions by a King with an attitude and God did deliver him.

Satan tried to tempt Jesus to commit a presumptuous sin. He asked Jesus to cast himself off the high pinnacle of the temple to prove that He was the Son of God. Jesus didn't fall for it. He said... "It is written, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

Another example of a presumptuous sin would be for one to take up a deadly serpent presuming that God would protect him or her from it's poisonous bite. It would be tempting God and such is forbidden in scripture as shown above.

Another example of a presumptuous sin would be for someone to presume that God would understand why they spent 100% of their income paying on their debts, and didn't bother to pay the 10% tithe on their increase. God will not be satisfied by getting what might be left over. He is to receive the first 10% of our increase.

Another presumptuous sin would be for one to be so sure of their sanctification as to believe that they can frequent the devil's playhouses, and not be overcome by temptation. "Let him that thinks he standeth, take heed, lest he fall." If we want to stay saved and sanctified, we need to keep away from the allurements of the sinful world.

Another presumptuous sin would be for a person to believe that somehow, God will understand and overlook their sin. But God does not understand or overlook sin and does not permit anyone to sin and get by with it. Eventually sin will be judged.
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." "Be sure your sins will find you out."

A presumptuous sin would be for someone to believe that they can commit adultery and get by with it, because they are not being satisfied at home by their marriage partner. Adultery is a sin and God will not overlook it nor condone it.

God never overlooks sin and it is never alright with God for us to sin, for any reason.

Someone said that Presumption is the devil's counterfeit of Faith. Faith is standing on God's promises whereas Presumption is purposely venturing outside the will of God. Faith is accompanied by obedience and draws one closer to God, whereas presumption is accompanied by disobedience and leads a person away from God.

There are many other examples of the presumptuous sins but these are given so that one might know and understand the dangers of this sin and not be found guilty of it.
