I am having problems getting my money back from the school I applied to.

I applied to a school (in UK) for a Masters programme. I was given admission but could not go because I was refused visa. It took me less than a week to pass across my commitment deposit (2000 pounds) to them but it's taking forever to send my money back. They told me it takes a month to return it, but they would deduct 100 pounds for processing. I was refused visa in July, and the request for my refund was made almost immediately.

What do I do? Who do I report to?

alll you need to do is to re-informed them about the money am very sure they will refund the money. same things happens to me. Infact, mine was about 6750pounds and they have not refund though they gave me an APPEAL.

In matters like this, I would like to state that the most appropriate thing would be to confirm with the program director whom you have been emailing about your intention,progress and documentations.

We in nigeria have very poor email culture and the oyinbos are scaming us blue-black.

See, if you had a strong raport with the department or the program director before paying,you wont be in this mess.

but then all is not lost.

Print all your email copies,fax,phone replies if possible, bank payments, bank details, application copies,email replies and the confirmations of payment, attach the offer of admission and forward march to EFCC office at ikoyi, lagos.

I promise you, we will get your money and some compensation.

Anyways, it's been confirmed by my bank in Nigeria that they received the money in September, though it has not been transferred into my account. The reason they gave is that there was a mix-up in the name of the account owner.

Imagine, since Sept and I have not recieved my money in Dec . . . and this is within Nigeria.

I might have to involve EFCC if necessary.

More importantly, what is your bank doing about the "mix-up", and when do they promise to release the money?

They are complicating issues. Anyways, they gave us one month, which expires next week.
