Some people wonder why Nigerians are so sensitive to the price of Petrol unlike in many advanced countries of the world where many people do not even easily remember the price of the product.

The reason is simple; Petrol is used virtually in every home that needs electricity in Nigeria. At least one of three homes or businesses in Nigeria arguably generates up to 50% of its own electricity in most cities in Nigeria (Citation needed)

Doubling Petrol price in Nigeria is like doubling State or Federal Tax overnight in most advanced countries, it will generate a similar reaction because everyone especially in the lower and middle class will feel the effect on their income and therefore in their homes, just the way Nigerians are feeling the effect of deregulation.

Also, the same leaders asking Nigerians to sacrifice are the ones who will not give up their own luxury lifestyle and needs for a better nation; just the other day, ministers were asking for up to N20 million naira housing package.
