I subscribed to the new MTN Data plan of 2,000 naira for 3.5gig yesterday. I'm on the Bettertalk plan which gives me triple of every recharge so I got 4,000 naira bonus upon recharge.

I did the subscription while still having the bonus intact. Now according to a Customer Care representative when I enquired sometime ago, I was told that if you subscribe to any data plan on Bettertalk, before your data starts getting deducted they would start deducting from the bonus airtime for any internet-related activity. That is however true from my previous data subscription with MTN when I used to do the 4.5 gig for 2,500 Naira.

For the past 20 hours I have made calls and used the Internet all of which were charged from my 4,000 nara bonus airtime.

Late into the evening, I checked my data balance and I had my full 3.5gig intact and I saw another 700mb for night plan. I disregarded that as system error and went about my own normal business.

I used the Internet for a while and about three hours later, I wanted to see if they had started deducting from my data and Lo! I saw I had 615mb left.

I didn't download. In fact I made sure I didn't download because I wanted to ensure I used a substantial amount of the airtime to make calls.

How on earth did I spend 2.9 gig in three hours?

I called Customer Care and they were quoting some nonsensical thousands of kilobytes that I used.

My phone is telling me otherwise. No matter the difference in the data usage calculations, it shouldn't be that much. Screenshot attached.

This is a huge inconvenience from MTN. 2,000 Naira might be meagre but this is unacceptable.

This is not my first time of subscribing on this phone for different data plans. Why is this different? I am not going to accept this.

I own a store that is dependent on the internet.

Unfortunately for me, own MTN has a good coverage in the area.

I used to subscribe for the 2015mb for N2015 which used to last for about 14days.

When they rolled out their new data plans my 2015mb mysteriously didn't last for upto 5days. We called them and they made us feel we exhausted the data.

Now... Last Friday I subscribed for the 1.5gb and by Monday it was gone. Yesterday I did the 3.5gb and now my associate is telling me we used over 200mb just for yesterday evening. I was beginning to suspect foul play from my employee until I came across this thread.

My question is... Should this kind of daylight 'macro' scam be allowed to go just like that? Are they trying to raise the money for the NCC fine at our expense?

This is killing my 'small scale business'.

It's already a struggle to buy PMS at such price, buy an already ridiculously expensive data plan, pay salaries et al.

Now, I'm just waiting to buy another data. How much I dey make na!

This is wickedness!

I am on glo infinito, but to enjoy their bonuses on phone calls to any network, you will need dial *200# just once and then you will get a confirmation message on your phone. After then you can load any card but starting from N200 and you will get the 200% bonus on your bonus account and also another N200 on your friend and family number account. That's if you load N200 card you will get another N400 on your bonus account and another N200 on your friend and family number account. If u load N500, you will get another N1000 bonus on your bonus account. To check your bonus account, dial #122#, to check main balance dial #124*1#. And the validity of the bonus is 7 days and it can be use to call any network. Not only that. You will get another kind of bonus to call friends and family numbers. For example if you load N200 you will get N400 on your bonus account and also get N200 in your friend and family number account, if u call any number that has been added to your friend and family number list they will deduct from your friend and family account while money in your accounts will be intact. But the friend and family numbers must be glo number to another glo number. Also you will be given 15mb to browse throughout the week.

To know their data plan:

Visit:

https://www.gloworld.com/ng/personal/data/data-plans/

I browse with this code:

Type Comonth and then send to 777. I use it on Blackberry Bold 5. It will last you for one full month. And u will get massive bonuses to call any network when you subscribe too.

I am not working with or for glo, I am just a customer like anyone out there, so make nobody think its because I am working with glo, I have to support glo network over mtn. Mtn to me is a scam, and they shud be ban from Nigeria if only my opinion can count. How can a foreigner come here to scam us and indigenous company don't engage in such. What provoke me more about mtn, is this, after scamming u, u call their customer care, they will only plead with u and will not compensate u for your loss, which account will I record such loss? Non-sense.

I thought it was only airtel that does this poo! Please was mtn forced to modify their data plans at gun point. Why all this scamming. Its so annoying. I was still counting days for dis slow and dull Glo network to expire so that I can go back to Mtn. I'm disappointed in them. Its unfortunate etisalat doesn't have good reception in this locality.

migrate to Etisalat Easylife 4.0 Limited Edition from your current plan, simply dial the code *420*1# @11K/Sec (N6.60K/min) for a daily access fee of N5 which is only triggered at your first call of the day – meaning that without you making any call in a day, the N5 access fee will not be charged.

I left airtel because they increase their tariff fron 11k/sec to 15k/sec

I am not regretting it
thank you so much

Bro, you are wasting your time going to their office, except you are ready to put up some strong drama. If you are going to get that data refunded, you must be able to go very crazy with MTN. There are two ways to that. I am telling you this because I was a victim of their manipulation twice last month, and twice I got my money refunded (N3000 in total). You must exercise patience because as usual they will put the blame on you (am assuming you are being truly short-changed). In my own case, this is what I did

1. I didn't bother calling customer care. Those ones don't know anything.
2. I went straight to their twitter handle @mtn180 and lodged my complain there.
3. Expectedly, they told me the fault is on me and that there was no fraudlent deduction from my data.
4. I told them to show me the breakdown of data usage. They refused. Instead they refered me to self care portal to see the breakdown
5. When I saw that no help was coming, I started bombarding them with all sorts of accusations and fraudlent transactions with Nigerians
6. In each of those tweets, I copied NCC, Punch Newspaper, Director of NCC, Tony Ojobo and several other media outlets
7. Infact Tony Ojobo, replied my tweets and asked me to lodge my complaints with NCC on 622. That is free.
8. I did exactly that and the following day, MTN started calling me with 180.
9. In fact I neglected their first two calls knowing fully well that NCC was already at work!
10. I picked the third call, and the apology started: "Hen we are sorry for all the inconvinience you have experienced, that is not our way of treating our customers, we respect all our customers equally bla bla bla...... Please not that your acount will be refunded with N2000 very soon. sorry for the inconienience."

That is how I got my money back for reducing my night plan from 2G to 667MB and wiping out 1.5G day plan without even using it! All withing one week of twitter war

Earlier before this, I subscribed for BB N1000, and for two weeks I could not even open a page. I lodged complaint but as usual, they said the fault is not from them. I bombarded them on twitter, distrupting their tweets and tweeting back at those who lodged complains. two days later, they sent me message that my 1k has been refunded and no other explanation!

Going to their office and playing gentle guy won't help you.

Go mad with them. But you must have your facts and be sure of your information because the truth is you cant deceive them. They have all the facts!

Check out my earlier complaint here https://www.nairaland.com/3052075/please-me-mtn-defrauding-me
Wowww!!! This is by far the best post so far. Thanks really for giving us the solution to end this daylight robbery of Mtn on Nigerians. Cos I think we've been taken for granted for too long by these ungrateful S. Africans. I hereby urge everybody here who's having any issue with Mtn to kindly do as advised above in order to bring these yellow criminals to justice.

This is the most idiotic statement ever. So as a subscriber to a data bundle I should check MTN's website steadily to know of changes in my bundle? Ain't they suppose to call me or send a text? Don't they call to advertise their dumb jingo? Or anytime I wanna top-up do I do it on their website? Mind yourself bro....

MTN! those guys are to me the devil, so I try to eat with a long spoon when in the table with them.

Seriously I never trusted their new data package, knew there would be a few complaints here and there so I didn't rush to subscribe...those guys are one of Naija's official full time scammers and funny thing is they do all these while NCC looks one. Anyways I still gat the right to patronize any Tesco company I want and mtn is definitely not in the first two...

Lest I forget, thanks for the info on the glo data package and bonuses, really appreciate. Thanks!

Each time i subscribed #1,000 for 1.5gb, #2,000 was always given as bonus but my #2,000 given bonus was always charged @ 1kb/kb before u know i've been suck dry of my #2,000 bonus before they started deducting from the data i subscribe for. MTN that's stupidity.
Re: The Untrustworthiness Of MTN - The New Data Plans by toniapat(f): 9:38pm On May 20, 2016
My own experience, i subscribed for the 3.75gig for 2k. Used it for about six days with a very fair data deduction rate...and then the next thing I knew is dat they moved my remaining 3.1+gig to night plan which meant I could no longer browse during d day.

I ignored them, didn't even bother to call customer care cos they are a bunch of sickos.
Next I noticed again three days after...they moved my 3gig to the regular plan which means I can surf day and night. Data deduction is very fair cos I surf and download too. so when I wake up everyday I'm xpecting to get a 0.0mb data balance cos I know it will eventually happen at some point

I'm folding my arms, watching them do their confused dance. They can experiment with my line but not my head. And I don't plan to do data deal with Mtn anymore
