Africa is fast hooking up to the .com world. Despite the fact that there are a lot of African countries and places in Africa without internet access, some websites with African contents are making waves. Using the Alexa ranking which monitors the popularity of a website by estimating the number of visitors and page views it gets, some African websites are definitely not among the top 10 but surely among the top 1000 out of more than 300 million websites in existence. This gives the idea of the competition at the top spot and the successes and achievements of these websites. Note that due to stiff competition, these positions change from time to time and does not remain static forever and with Alexa ranking, the smaller the number, the more popular the website.

10. Djelfa.info
Djelfa is the popular Algerian website and is positioned at no 10 of the most popular websites in Africa. The website covers mostly Algerian news and in addition, news from the Arab and rest of the world. It is the second most visited website in Algeria and among the top sites in the Arab world.

9. First Rand bank (fnb.co.za)
FNB is the only banking website that made the list. The bank provides personal, commercial and corporate banking services to more than 7.2 million customers across South Africa and it uses its website to facilitate several banking services to its customers. FirstRand Bank Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of FirstRand Limited, and has a number of divisions, including Rand Merchant Bank (the investment bank), FNB (the retail and commercial bank) and WesBank (the instalment finance provider).
