This Thread is created about the growing Trend in Nigerian states since Last week. Unemployed graduates have taken to major streets of the country to advertise themselves using placards with write-ups like “Employ Me”, “I need a job” and so on. This Trend started as the very first unemployed youth, ABDULAHI OLATOYAN, a University of Ilorin drop-out who cleans Windscreen (wearing Suit and Tie) in order to save up for further Education was taken out of the street of Lagos by A Celebrity fashion Stylist Uche Nnaji.

Fortunately for her, The lady came in contact with Billionaire Tony Elumelu through this act and Hopefully, She is gainfully Employed now.

As If that's not enough, Another Young Man has been spotted in a similar Act::

The most recent of them all is the Unemployed Young man found in the streets (see photo below) on Monday carrying similar “Job-Application placard”. He is an Animal production Graduate from the University of Abeokuta and Has finished his NYSC. The Young man is seeking to be employed as an Animal scientist but so far, we Have not heard any reports to that effect.

Now We ask:

Is this not becoming a trend in Nigeria?

Should Employers Give Jobs to these people on the streets?

shouldn't The Federal government Do something to end this "Image-denting" trend?

Personally, I think employing these people is a reinforcement to this behavior and it should be stopped before hand. If not, soon, Graduates will be "hawking" their certificates with placards like Gala in Nigerian streets.

Nairalander, What do you think?

The only fuel that can b poured into this trend is people gaining employment through it. Enployers need to stop that by not reinforcing it at all cry cool

Honestly speaking, the frustration our youths and young graduates go through is very pathetic.

Could u imagine a fresh graduate who is eminently qualified for an advertised job is nocked off with 10yrs experience in the field. Then the issue of nepotism and tribalism comes into play.

How about discrination among genders? Some unscrupulous employers would prefer female counterpart to male cos immorale reasons.

Our govt are not helping matters either. When will our power sector stabilize. Many companies like dulop and michellin tyres etc have moved to neighbouring countries.

Hence, what we see on the street today. And i bet u Op, more innovation of job hunt will still come up. Am even happy they never resort to evil thing like armed robbery or harlotery

Well, Your points are valid. But If This trend continues unchecked, Our Country's dying Image will be affected so badly that our Education system will no longer be valued one bit in other countries of the world. Secondly, No matter the cause, Resorting to criminal acts to survive is out of place. Entrepreneurship is also a very BIG option for every Job seeker. Every great achievement started with simple steps
