If I am permitted to use just a word to describe His Royal Majesty, Oba Michael Folorunsho Olabayo (JP), I will choose- Peace.

From my little knowledge and what I have read from other people, during your reign as King of our great town, there was peace all over the town.
Though I was a very little boy, less than 10 years when you mounted the throne of kingship of Kabba in 1985, I still have some scattered memories of that coronation, being close to your children, and also our family houses shares a fence.

This gave me the opportunity to witness first-hand preparation of the installation of a king, I haven’t witnessed any again since then. I remember some of the horses to be used for the celebration were tied at our house, and one hilarious moment I will never forget, when one of the women making preparation slept off and a horse was suddenly approaching her before people screamed and she jumped off.
The whole Kabba area was full of life and celebrations then, after lost of hopes and uncertainty.

My one-time personal encounter with you was after my NYSC in 2003. I had just published my first magazine, and was going about soliciting support from people. You were one of those I planned visiting, for a royal blessing.

I remember I was afraid, not sure how one is expected to behave before a king. I wasn’t sure what to say or what not to say, I mean it was more difficult for me than visiting a politician.

But Alas! When you came to attend to us, my dad and I, in less than five minutes of our arrival, I was not only surprised, but was taken aback by your simplicity.

I prostrated and you welcomed us. I told you about my magazine which I just started. You asked me, which magazine was my “role model” and I told you. You blessed me and blessed my magazine.

It’s an event I will never forget. That was my personal encounter with you. I have read different accolades from different people and things said about you, and I’m sure if you read where you are, you will be smiling.

Like I mentioned in the earlier part of my article, what I like most importantly about you is your peaceful nature. I believe you brought peace to Kabba as the King of the great town for 30 years.

You might have gone, but memories like this never die.

Rest in peace sir.
