Facebook and whatsapp may have created those smileys but trust me you've created more awareness than them cos I just noticed it now after reading your post , and I'm sure a lot more will be seeing those things for the first time.

Nigerians always complaining about things they have no power/zeal to create.

If you don't like it, don't install Whatsapp/facebook on your phone. Simple! Or create a better app and invite your friends and family members to use it.
