My brother gain admission to pursue his undergraduate in UK. Currently he is a business man with monthly income of about 200-300 thousand.

My question is this, I would like to know if it is advisable to forget about the business and pursue the school. He hopes to find a job while he is working. We are afraid that he might reach there and couldn't make up to what he is making here. Or maybe he will start requesting for money. Please I want to know the average amount paid. Your advice is highly appreciated

Spot on! Let ur brother make up his mind b4 coming, business or study. If he is making 200-300k a month in Nigeria the chances of him making that much here with full time education is very slim.

Yes he can work 20hrs awk here during school term and ful time on holidays but its tough, he will need help from home.

Let someone from the family or friend handle his business, if they re faithful enough he can be getting like 150k from them monthly, while he study and work at the same time.

Its an opportunity but it depends if you guys can handle it.

By the way, he has just gotten admission, what about the visa? to me that is the koko.

Peace.

He has been granted the visa. As for someone handling the business for him, there is no one to do that now. The school will resume next month. He is 24 and afraid that maybe if he continue with the business, due to age, he may not be able to get the admission and visa again. A friend told me that the average payment per hour is 7pounds.
According to my brother, he doesn't mind using all his savings. But that idea is what I don't like.

Minimum wage is £5.73 an hr, in London u could be paid more than that cos london is more expensive compared to other uk cities.
If he could pay the fees from his saves in Nigeria then working 20hrs wk will help him towards his rent here, if he lives outside school acommodation, sharing a house with out students is cheaper(private rent)

3yrs course is not easy but it worth it at the end. He only need serious planning and concentration. God will help him
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by EAsY6: 11:54am On Aug 26, 2009
Since he has the VISA already then he has no choice than to go you know! So you lot should figure out to keep the Business alive! period. embarassed Maybe he should have considered Uni-lag before UK (jokes)
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by snokky(m): 5:45pm On Aug 26, 2009
U guys should try and let him go. Find a way of running his business for him or something.

Look let me tell you. That may be his only opportunity of getting a Visa in life!!, lol, I have a friend in Uk, though he is not in a big Uni, but a nice college, about 4k pounds per year or something, and he is really doing alot of german german and sponsoring himself.

Its a risk, so you guys shld encourage him to take it.

I will rather empty my GTB account and pursue a degree in UK than to stay around here struggling with nepa problems,
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by justwise(m): 7:16pm On Aug 26, 2009
@snokky

I don't think ur friend told u the whole truth, no registered Uni here will give any non-EU student school fees of £4,000, only if ur friend is doing a yr foundation course, not degree.
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by kadman(m): 7:40pm On Aug 26, 2009
@ Just Wise.

Lots of colleges with £4,000 and less. That's why he said not a big Uni,with emphasis on college.

Before your brother move down to the UK.

I will like to know

How many yrs course is the program?

Tuition fees per yr?

Approx,  total amount he got in cash,

I am asking all this questions because I wouldn't like your brother to be a drop-out when he gets to UK because he can never use the part-time job to pay his school fees/accommodation.

The PT job is just to support personal/unnecessary expenditure.

You need to take all this into consideration before his moves down to UK so that he can plan himself ahead.

Going to UK to study worth it since he knows what he want,  the business might collapse one day because the Nigerian economy is not dependable and scrambling at a higher speed that is why he took the bold step to study abroad.

Opportunity comes but once

Good Luck

My bros i dey.
See all those colleges asking u to pay 4k for degree are dogy schools, all they sale is admission letter, nothing else. they target oversea students mainly, they don't have a proper campus not even a compound, just flat.
Their degree courses are not registered, thats why they are killing u with emails, the moment they get ur money then u will know the truth.
They are everywhere in london, don't be fooled

By the right-hand side u will see PDF link that says: Register of Sponsors Licensed Under the Points-Based System.

According to him, the tuition is about 9000pounds. It is a three year course. He said that if he sell all his goods, he will have about 6.sth million. There is no one to handle the business. He didn't inform us about his motives until he got the visa.

after much much. . . i think your brother shouldn't risk his business if its actually worth over 6 million naira. . . does he think spending 6M on Uk education guarantees a brighter future than the one he has now? 6m business! ah. . . na risk o!!! heavy risk man!

yes na risk oo ha  shocked  grin

hmmmmmmmm,   na waooo,  this one get as he be ooooo,  I dont want to discourage but @ the other side,

I won't advise your brother to leave his business just like that. For him to struggle to get 6M, I believe he will make more than that if he works harder.

cos if him go UK go put all those money haaa,  and still him dey struggle by the end of the day,  hmmmm, na Bleep up be that oo

Cos I bet you 6M isn't enough for the whole period of 3yrs, accommodation, sch fees, books, transportation & other stuffs, na rich pikin ppl dey put head for this kind thing oo, dropping out no go good.

What kinda course your bro wants to study? Is the course lucrative? or he just wanna study abroad?

I'm not trying to discourage but based on your issue, we are trying to find the best solution so that he won't make the wrong move.

With little experience I have got, cos I have lots of friends in UK so they tell me how stuffs is running there,

@Poster,

I wanna ask 1 more question,

Is your brother business collapsing? B4 making my final conclusion about this issue.

YOUR BRODA IS LETTING THE BIRD IN HAND FLY WITH DA HOPE OF GETTING THE FLYING BIRD, LOL. IF HE HAS A BUSINESS WORTH 6 MILLION NAIRA. HE HAD BETTER KEEP HIS BUSINESS RUNNING. EVEN GRADUATES NO GET JOB. I WILL ADVICE HE GETS A DEGREE SOMEWHERE CHEAPER THAN THE UK. HE CAN TAKE UNILAG PART-TIME IF HE WANTS A DEGREE AND KEEP RUNNING HIS BUSINESS HERE. EVEN MOST PEOPLE WHO HAVE MASTERS DONT MAKE 200K - 300K IN A MONTH HERE. IF YOU HE FANCY TRAVELING. LET HIM JUST GO FOR HOLIDAY AND COME BACK. WITH UK VISA ON HIS PASSPORT. HE CAN GET ANY OTHER COUNTRY'S VISA WITHOUT MUCH ADO. I WILL ADVICE HE DOES SOMETHING ELSE SOMETHING LESS EXPENSIVE OTHER THAN PUT ALL HIS ASSETS ON A DEGREE IN UK. THE THE 40% TAX IN UK IS NOT EVEN ENCOURAGING. WHETHER U RE A LAWYER, DOCTOR, TAILOR OR CARPENTER. WE ARE ALL LOOKING FOR MONEY. SO IF GOD HAS BLESSED YOU AS A BUSINESSMAN WHAT MORE DO U WANT. HE HAD BETTER NOT WASTE HIS MONEY, AT THE END OF THE DEGREE HE WILL START LOOKING FOR A JOB AGAIN. REMINDS ME OF MY UNCLE WHO LEFT A GOOD JOB HERE TO THE UK FOR MASTERS, DURING MARGRET THACHER TIME. POLICY CHANGE MADE HIM SUFFER COS BLACKS COULD NOT GET GOOD JOB AGAIN. KEEP UR BIZ BRO, NO TIME
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by Nobody: 10:27pm On Aug 28, 2009
Maybe your brother should consider tuition free countries like Sweden, Finland and the likes. . . It's not a compulsion to study in the UK. . .  wink

Forfeiting a multi million naira business isn't a risk! It's foolishness. . . Nigerians must wake up and realize that success doesn't come with how many degrees you can boast of, its what u can achieve. Risk ko, Risi ni!  grin

so, how is ya brother doing now?
Re: I Need A Serious Advice Concerning Uk by samoyin(m): 6:24pm On Sep 28, 2011
I guess the best thing your brother should do is to take the risk, go for his studies in the Uk.

He must leave his business in good hands and really concentrate on his studies if he really
wants to make the best of this opportunity.

If your brother is the industrous type he could make the best of his stay in UK.

I am optimistic that he would not regret his decision to grab the opportunity.

Cheers.
