The Chairman, Senate Committee on Domestic Debt and Loans, Shehu Sani has expressed deep concern over the darkness being experienced across the country.
He stressed that no excuse by power stakeholders was cogent enough to substantive hardships that Nigerians were passing through.

Describing the drop in power supply as unacceptable and embarrassing, he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rethink his way towards appointing a Minister who is not only an electrical engineer, but who has the knowledge of the industry.

“We are in a state of paralysis, and there is urgent need to appoint a reputable electrical engineer to manage the affairs of power, independent of other responsibilities”, he said.

Sani added: “Distribution Companies (DISCOs) were now distributing darkness despite increment in electricity tariff; private power investors have failed the nation by moving manageable power epilepsy to a complete paralysis.”

He called for a review of defunct Power Holdings Company of Nigeria assets, noting that privatisation of power regime had brought untold hardship to Nigerians.

While suggesting for the setting up of energy task force responsible for immediate technical and financial intervention in generation, transmission and distribution, he urged government to invest in renewable and non renewable energy.

That's no excuse. Before bombing started proper, there was no light. The government just used the advantage of bombing of pipeline as an excuse.

Sani is right. How can you appoint a Lawyer who has no single knowledge of even Megawatts as Minister of Power. Sani is never a sycophant, he says the truth irrespective of the party lineage.

It's always easy to criticize from the outside. He has stepped into the arena now and the chap is technically confused

An end to the nation's power crisis has remained elusive regardless of who is in office. Everyone leapt with joy the day Fashola was made the minister of power in the hope that his go-getting aura would make him tackle the power crisis headlong. This has not been the case as the almost intractable crisis has earned him the sobriquet "minister of darkness". The power crisis has been further exacerbated by the activities of vandals. Fashola , himself , appears to be at his wits end over what to do about the crisis. He may simply end up as another minister of power that was defied by the power crisis.

It appears there is an inadequate understanding of the challenges ailing the power sector. It is hard to understand why successive ministers of power have not been able to resolve the crisis. We really must look for a lasting solution by any way that God or man can show....Fashola must certainly have learnt some salutary lessons from all of this. He must now have seen that ensuring adequate supply of power to Nigerians is more than rocket science.

Who are we to hold accountable for securing lives and property?? Or is that no longer the responsibility of the government?

I have come to appreciate whatever those in authority are doing. True. I need not read more as I've not had power since Sunday, and it was just for 2hours. Funny thing is, these bastards will still bring their estimated bill and tell you "hey, there was supply" even in the barest minimum.

For me, I've already told the individual bringing those nonsensical power bill to my house that I don't want to see him again. If I see him, anything he sees, he should take it like that.

How can one be paying 5,000 estimated bill when one don't even have light for 24 hours in a whole month What nonsense. Later, they'll tell you the Niger Delta Avengers is to blame for the drop in power.
