Both ladies hug it out, two days without their usual gossip, work wasn't the same in her absence. Anna broke off the embrace to munch on the chocolate bar calling out to her - they were her Achilles heel. Asides the fact that the doctor told her to avoid eating just anything she came across to avoid a reoccurrence of the food poisoning she was just treated for, she just couldn't resist the temptation.

"I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday" smiles were written all over her face, the joy of the chocolate was great. Patricia laughed and teased she doesn't on the bars with her consumption speed.

"You won't believe what happened here yestersay," Patricia started. Anna adjusted herself for the latest, she felt they needed to start a gossip blog of the things that happened in this firm, but Patrick's presence killed her joy before it could even be maximized.

"Come with me Anna," his implied-bass had began to sound more accommodating to the ear. Anna hid her displeasure and followed immediately. He led the movement, and she followed silently. Going nowhere in particular, he abruptly stopped, and turned to her,

"A valuable document was entrusted to you, and it ended up getting lost moments after. Suffic
e it for me to suspect that you had something to do with it" He observed a momentary pause to read the thoughts on Anna's face, "If you had something to do with the missing Crescent Housing document, know that I'll find out, and your punishment will be so severe that Andrew in all his might will not be able to save you."

Anna couldn't move - probably because Patrick was still within eye shot from her position. The moment he was out of sight, she rushed to the elevator, she needed to talk to Andrew. She kept pressing the unresponsive button of the elevator for about ten seconds till it answered her call, and opened on the wrong floor. Too engrossed in her own worry that she was still punching the elevator, she was ignorant of her environment and didn't realize when Mark entered.

"It's either I'm invisible whenever I'm around you, or I'm not as attractive as my mother once made me believe,"

Anna immediately stopped fiddling with the control buttons and turned around, now conscious of the familiar voice.

"I'm so sorry Sir, a lot of thing on my mind," she faked a smile.

"Not Sir. Call me Mark, Anna, I'm not that old," he pleaded with her.

"I'm so sorry, Mark"

"I wonder why you're always in a hurry. Mind if I can be of help in slowing your haste"

"You won't understand"

"Try me"

Anna paused for a very short while, and spoke,

"I'm on my way to discuss with Mr. Andrew, my supervisor. Something important came up, which needs his urgent attention"

"Okay. You're a paralegal, I guess?"

Anna nodded in the affirmative.

"Hmm"

Some things were beginning to make sense to him now.


The elevator door opened, on the 15th floor, and that was her cue to leave.

"This is my destination"



"I've not known much people since I resumed here, and I'll like that to change. Mind if I ask you out on a date, strictly platonic"

"There's no problem with that" her smile turned real, the CEO found her worthy for a date, and it pleased her guiltily.

"My PA will forward you the arrangement later. Nice meeting you again Anna,"

He watched the elevator close in front of her. Anna was all smiles, she walked majestically as though she just had an interview with Jesus. By the time she got the Andrew's office she had forgotten the anger that made her rush out here in the first place. Agnes was the one to bring her back to reality.

"Hello Anna, he's in a meeting with a client"

"OK, thank you. Wait, you know my name?"

"Of course. That's what I do. What kind of secretary would I be, if I don't know the names of all the people that my boss relates to?"

"Hmm. That's nice"

Anna's thoughts began to fly - Patricia's last statement had a lot of meaning, Anna wasn't going to let the fact that Andrew possibly had other girls at his disposal weigh her down more than she already was.

"I'm Agnes by the way,"

"Nice to meet you Agnes" Anna waved back from her position.

Andrew's door flew open, and there he was, showing his guests out. He caught sight of Anna, and beckoned her to come in.

Anna's appearance troubled Andrew greatly, he didn't mind he had already questioned her what the problem was, he wanted her to just name something as her problem. She buried her head on his shoulder, the soothing feel of his office couch offered her more comfort and confidence to open up,

"Patrick just accused me of having a hand in the missing document you all are raging out about."

Andrew's voice hardened alongside his face, "Details."

She took her time, and explained in detail all that transpired, how Patrick summoned her, insulted her dignity according to her, and left her hanging on a spot. All these pissed Andrew off so much he couodmt bottle up his anger that had brewed for a while now. He stormed out to Patrick's office, Anna ran after him pleading for him to stop.

"How dare you accuse my paralegal of such crime? Andrew started when he found him, "How dare you say she had something to do with the missing court evidence?"

"And how dare you come to me raising your voice? Are we mates?" Patrick fired back, his newly cultured voice helped him sound confident,

"Eff you and your old age" Andrew held him by his collar and pinned him to the nearest wall, "You won't respect yourself and leave age out of our stupidity. If you're searching for those who'll always be afraid of you, I suggest you go work on making your wife respect you better"

Their loud scuffle attracted people who attracted more people, not everyday two senior colleagues had s public confrontation.

"The next time you have an issue with my paralegal, you come to me, or God help what I'd do to you" Andrew fired, and started walking away.

"Is she the only paralegal you've got? I'll find out exactly what's between the both of you... Pervert... Weakling... I'll destroy you in this firm... I'll destroy your career, I've been here longer than you" Patrick razed continuously trying to find the perfect word(s) that'll piss Andrew off more, but to no avail.

Mark had been watching from a distance, observing his two top advisors fight dirty in public. His attention was drawn to a woman, huge, dark, and very plumpy, hurriedly approaching Mr. Patrick from behind. He wanted to shout "watch out!" But decided against it, "What the hell," He thought.

The woman got up stealthily to Patrick's back, and pushed him hard, sending him crashing down. "You stupid man" she yelled down at him.

"Yeeeeh!!!" the onlookers shouted, attracting more people to join the all increasing chaos.

"You think you can be sleeping with everybody here, and I won't know bah? It is me and you today..." she fired before sitting on him, he couldn't put up much of a fight because she had the advantage of size and element of surprise.

"You are on leave. Do not come back to that housetill further notice or else the neighbours will hear our quarrel, and come to find your dead body later" She sternly warned, he knew to not mess with her whenever she got like this, this was what he had been suffering for a while now in his marriage of seven years.

The junior workers, paralegals, and everybody who held one grudge or the other against The always unsatisfied Mr. Patrick had a live treat to how he managed his home in commotions, whereas he pretended to be a perfectionist at work. Patrick walked out head down in shame, because of the many phone camera flashes which were fixated on him.

Anna, who had been watching all along with guilt that she was the one who caused the entire scenario that played out kept looking at Patrick from her distance fumble with maintaining his stance, tears trickled down her cheeks. Patricia found her in time to take her away.

Andrew was still very angry about the entire thing, he wondered out loud why Patrick would have the courage to accuse Anna of theft especially with her under his protection now, it meant Patrick didn't fear him enough and he hoped he had corrected that error. He really hope he had, he threw his mug against the double paned glass in a moment of frustration- anger mixed feeling.

"Are you alright," Agnes ran in, she feared he'd done something stupid to himself,

"I'm fine Agnes, can you just go away, and leave me" He sounded rude just to send her away, and it worked, she left sulking that he was rude to her.

Andrew stood up, and opened his lower drawer, and brought out a shabby looking big sized package, he emptied its content, and revealed a file that read on its label, "Crescent Housing." He stared at his office camera and blinked repeatedly in silence.

There was a little misunderstanding pertaining to why the missing Crescent Document would be found inside Andrew's desk. Agnes had already been questioned, and she refuted any knowledge of an intruder gaining access into Andrew's office, "Unless when I wasn't on seat," was her angle of argument. Andrew pressed Mark for his support, to show he believed him, that was the only thing that would prevent the security officers from taking him into custody. Mark just kept his gaze on the document as it played on the table, he observed that the seal was still unbroken so he gave the security officers the order, "Let him go," Andrew heaved a deep sigh of relief.

"The Circle needs to gather now," Mark told Andrew without turning to him.

At the meeting, Mark announced that the security breach facing the firm was signs that they were targeted by yet unknown men, but luckily they weren't able to get the document they were after. The security's effort yielded little fruit, a hooded figure was found loittering the firm during the time Andrew and Patrick were showing off their mights. Patrick admitted to receiving a cryptic message from someone wearing a hood that morning that he question Anna very well over her involvement, so he stupidly did. Andrew was exonerated completely before Mark, he feared he wouldn't be able to trust the man who showed much potential to be his best ally here.

"I don't think they got what they wanted with the document, but our security measures need a overhaul. We need to be on the look out to avoid a reoccurrence, especially now that the Crescent case is rumoured to be reopened" Mark calmly announced.

The Circle murmured, different factions discussed within themselves, they thought the Crescent case completely finished. "I thought we had finished out the case in public" Andrew asked looking shocked. Mark announces that the opposition had new pieces of evidence according to what he heard, but nonetheless, they had to be prepared or lose a case fine tuned to a worth of billions in naira.

Mark needed Patrick and Andrew to wait behind after the meeting ended. "You're off for two weeks with effect from now," Mark spoke after the room had cleared. He didn't give Patrick the chance to argue, and threatened to call the security if Patrick repeated the show of shame he diplayed to the firm inside his office. Patrick left, exchanging a damning eye with Andrew. Andrew ignored him, and so did Mark who was more concerned with Andrew giving him names of people who would want to frame him up in such a manner.

"No one comes to mind," Andrew answered.

Mark reassured him of his commitment to keep working with him to change the face of the firm, and of his trust for him. "The war must be won," Andrew joined him to say, no one was going to take them down. Andrew left.


"Your dinner with Ms. Anna is still tonight," Mark's beautiful PA came in to announce, she wanted to know if he'd like to reschedule. "No," Mark didn't want to disappoint if Anna wasn't ready to disappoint, all the PA had to do was confirm if Anna was coming.

As Patrick drove away from the firm, he felt nostalgic. It was usually him dishing out 2 weeks of leave to insubordinates and unruly staffs like he did to Anna weeks ago - It was now he understood how they felt whenever those words fell easily from his mouth - Free. He pondered on where to go as his wife and his job had rejected him for varying number of days, he knew the coming days were going to be rough for him, and he decided o brace himself up for the challenge. He decided to go home and pack a few stuffs, knowing his wife won't go home until she narrated her entire show today to all the ladies in her salon. With each passing moment he spent on the Lagos traffic, he cursed out loud, as he knew they were moments closer to his wife returning home, and certainly, she would rain down hell on him as she promised to do. It wasn't the first time.

Patrick ran upstairs, and packed his bag wit much hurry, not stopping to calculate the amount of clothes he needed for the five days she warned him to not return home, all he wanted was to be gone before she arrived. As he was about to leave, a phone beeped on their matrimonial bed. He took a moment to stare at it to be sure he didn't forget his while hurrying, but soon realised it was his wife's. He wanted to go but couldn't, his inquisitive nature got the best of him to take a look at the phone he'd never gone through.

There was a message there and he opened it without thinking twice, it was a thank you message from someone over a job well done, while pondering another message came, an online bank transfer of two hundred thousand naira. He scrolled through old messages to see so many similar messages, a thank you and a transfer, he wondered if someone was paying his wife to sabotage him or they were for he business deals at the salon he opened for her, he couldn't think well, his brain was certainly clouded
.

"A toast,"

Mark popped the champagne bottle and emptied into two beautifully designed glasses, "A glass as beautiful as you," He cheerfully said as he lifted a glass to Anna. She chuckled. They clinked the glasses to cheer. They had already talked about frivolous stuffs and now was the time to thread into more personal territories, they both felt alcohol would help them lighten up and flow with the moment of the platonic date.

"Is there something between you and Patrick," He dropped the first thought that came into his mind. About time the half bottle they've already drunk started taking effects. Anna tried to hide her emerging laughter, she wondered what exactly she'd find attractive in Patrick to be involved with him. "No," she finally answered when her laughter had subsided.

"What about Andrew?"

Mark's attempt at humour wasn't settling fine anymore because he was encroaching towards the truth, and also because he reminded of the one person she didn't want to think about this evening. Anna remained silent.

Mark took a brief pause to think of the right words to say, he continued "Andrew loves you, Patrick loves, and now, I can't help but love you as well." Anna looked at him in amazement, at that moment she felt very special, to have captured the interest of two major players at Akin Chambers wasn't an easy feat, one most girls would die for. He stared into her eyes, as though he hoped to see her inner self, and continued "I must confess it's more of fascination at this moment, but I think your spell has caught me also, and its pleasuring to me." Anna heaved a sigh of relief when he was finally done speaking - her ears had heard too much for an evening. Like most girls did to play hard to get, she politely rejected his coy offer to date her. He expected she'd reject him on a first trial and openly admitted he might wait for her and try again.

Anna wanted to leave now, she declined his offer to drop her off, with the way he was acting she might be better off safer in a taxi than in his car.

"I'm coming, just a moment please" Andrew shouted. He ran down his stairs to the door.

"Who do we have here?" He smiled at the delightful sight of Anna at his door, he felt was looking too beautiful and didn't bother with his initial question of where her key was. She answered she was with Mark which didn't sit well with Andrew, he immediately wore a jealous look on his face. "That's not why I'm here," She brought back his attention. "Which is?" Andrew queried.

"I cant have you pulling the kind of stunt you pulled at the office today," Anna started. She walked pass him into his living room upstairs to take hold of herself and the moment, and nor jump on him as her hormones wanted her to do.

"That stunt as you call it, was for your well being, and I'll do it again and again and again to whoever tries to do you wrong" Andrew said without hesistating, he didn't get the angle she was coming from but couldn't give it a chance to rise above what he had to say.

Anna stressed her point, they weren't even dating and he publicly declared territory on her at their office, "That could destroy my repute at the office," she stressed further. Mark felt whatever she was saying now wasn't unconnected to her date with Mark, "I can if it keeps you safe,"

"What I'm I to you Andrew?" Anna cut him from talking with her question, it caught him unaware. He couldn't tangibly give her an answer. Anna asked her question again with a louder and teary voice.


Andrew was still silent, and rooted on the same spot. Anna stared at him for a while, and moved for the door. It took Andrew a while to decide on his next line of action, he ran after her calling her name, but she ignored him. He ran down the stairs after her, she was already at the door, she turned it open and they both see Beatrice at the door with her hands up as though to knock.

"Entertan your guest, I beg you don't follow me" Anna pleaded before she walked away into the dead of he night. If there was something Andrew had come to understand in his many years with women, it's never to argue with them when they're emotional. He let her be as she requested, but stood watching her disappear into the dead of the night until Beatrice's soft voice called for him to come in.

Beatrice planted a kiss on his cheeks as he walked pass her at the entrance. She smiled into the empty darkness as she closed the door behind her.

Mark's phone rang. He chuckled at the way he saved his hardworking assistant's name, "My PA," he read after the display name.

"How are you my dear?" He offered her the first greeting, she responded, she was sorry to disturb his dinner with Anna but seemed relaxed a bit after he told her their dinner had ended.

"I just received an official mail from the Supreme Court, mentioning the official reopening of the Crescent case, with our first court appearance scheduled for next Tuesday Sir," That was the emergency. Mark's fear had become real, he was silent. He finally thanked her for bringing it to his immediate notice and bid her goodnight.

The Chapter is quite nice and unimaginably easy to understand, it makes for a good and easily comprehensible book, i must applaud you for your decisive and strategic use of similes and metaphor, your writing pattern though absurd and quite awkward is surprisingly nice and well arranged in a pattern that doesn't contradict itself kudos to you on the achievement.

Although you have really impressed me i will not end this review without mentioning your too numerous and constant flaws, your writing makes the book feel like it was made for a young audience but with mature content, the unnecessary and silly outburst of emotions is excessive and like i said earlier unnecessary, your action, surronding and character description pattern is too little nfor a story with this type of broad concept, my review is almost at an end but i cannot end it without mentioning that your chapters are too short.

There is potential in your book but you have to ngo back to your drawing board and make your story better.

In summary i rate this Episode 2.5/5 stars

The news that the chamber under attack had gone viral - Tension filled every corner of the firm. The sudden realization of the impact the reopened Crescent case could have on the firm forced almost everyone to think about their future with regards to the firm. Worst of the entire news that broke out was the rumoured involvement of Mark in a shady deal that was linked to the last time the Crescent case ran, all these didn't make things easier on the climaxing fears of young staffs who were concerned about their opportunity in future labour markets if the firm lost this huge case. Things were looking uglier.

"The Boss needs you now," Agnes used those words to welcome Andrew, they've been searching for him all morning. "I had a rough night," He cried out to his defense, before heading for the conference room as Agnes directed him.

Andrew entered, and openly apologized to one no in particular for his late arrival, he always did like to make an impression when necessary. He caught Patrick with the corner of his eye, and wondered loud why a suspended staff was in the conference room.

"They firm's been summoned to court," Mark spoke. Andrew took his seat, things were more important than he'd been playing them since he arrived. Mark took center stage to intimate all present about the implications of the impending doom if they didn't avert it. He announced that the preliminary hearing had been scheduled for the coming Tuesday, everyone wondered why that soon, it didn't give them enough time to prepare. Patrick asked if they had anything incriminating on them, all eyes turned to Make because of the recent rumours making the rounds.

Mark looked back at all their faces in silence, the question though unexpected was still easy to answer, nonetheless he remained quiet. Every man looked at his neighbour with a corner of an eye and kept the other fixated on Mark's lips leat it started to move. Mark finally spoke when he realised how much damage not speaking was going to do to his brand.

"I want to say here and now that I wasn't involved in any discrepancies as many of you might be suggesting. Anything you heard is aimed at discrediting me" Mark rose to his own defense, his hands shook in anxiety, his heart raced, all he wanted was forbthenmeetinv to be over already.

"Mr. CEO Sir, I heard that the dreaded new comer, Mr. Huey, is the one representing the opposing team, and he seems all out for your blood from what I've heard. If there's something we need to know, now is the time to spill", Mr. Dimeji said to Mark, consciously looking down to avoid any form of his wrath. Mark refuses to answer him and adjourned the meeting.



*** Next Tuesday, after The court appearance ***

All attempts to make the presiding judge drop the case and stop its move for a retrial proved abortive, Mr. Huey performed far above their expectations - he was a true monster on the leash, and all he wanted was their blood, or Mark's own, no one knew his desires in particular.

Andrew couldn't take it any longer, he wasn't one to be associated with failure, and now, his name was stamped on a case headed to the drain full of lost cases souls. He needed to clear his head, hence his need to visit The Bar.

"They told me I'd find you here," A voice came from behind Andrew directed at him. He swiftly turned to behold his intruder. He didn't have a surprised look on his face because he recognized his intruder.

"You." That was all Andrew said to the male figure before him. He gave him the look that read "keep talking."

The man sat down spoke eloquently. For the better part of his narration, all a quasi-drunk Andrew could make out was the continuously repeated line of taking down Mr. Akin.

"You want Mr. Akin?" Andrew finally asked him.

"Yes I do. Help me get him, and I'll give you what you want most at the moment. You know where to find me" The man dropped his card and took his leave.
