- Mrs. Agbedi oppressing me - Victim.

- It was Mr. Agbedi not Mrs. Agbedi's convoy - Agbedi's solicitor, Barr. Dein.

- Stop using public office to intimidate our client - Tombra's solicitor, Barr. Olorogun

YENAGOA: An Indigene of Bayelsa, Mr. Paul simon Tombra has accused the wife of a sitting member of the House of representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi, representing Bayelsa west federal constituency, of intimidation and harassment. Hon. Fred Agbedi was also the Director General of the Restoration campaign organization in the last Bayelsa gubernatorial polls, which produced Mr. Henry seriake Dickson as Governor of Bayelsa state.

Mr. Tombra alleged that Mrs. Ebi Agbedi has been using her husband's status to intimidate and harass him, after her convoy carelessly ran off course, damaging his vehicle, a black ford F150 with registration No: LSD 585 XD, Chasis No: 1FTFWIEVOAFCO4833 on 24th of April 2016.

According to Mr. Tombra, while narrating his ordeal to his solicitor, F. B Olorogun Esq., MCIArb., he said

" On 24th of April, on a Sunday morning, i visited a friend at Edepie, Yenagoa, not too long, my friend received a call that his car has been hit, we ran out and discovered it was mine, i was angered at the sight of my damaged vehicle, i rose my voice, demanding who had done this?, a passerby approached me whom i discovered from his speech to be an Epie-man, he was shouting at me, i grew hot and slapped him, he slapped me back and the tension grew, before i knew hit, a police officer guarding one of the convoy, hit me with his gun, i then gave him a big blow, the other officers who were present ganged up and started beating me up, before i could rise, they started firing shots, i had to run away for fear of my life, while at cover, i called a lawyer friend, who advised me to report to a nearby station for assaulting the police officer, that i did and was detained till the next morning. It was in the morning, i discovered that the convoy belonged to Mrs. Ebi Agbedi, as she came in person to prosecute me, at the station, she categorically told me to be lucky that i was alive, as if she was there on the scene, i would have been dead, she demanded me to be taken to Akenfa division, where she claimed she had earlier reported me, getting there, the D. P. O categorically told her to stop the drama of unwarranted accusation and proceed in repairing my damaged vehicle, she was bitter and accused the D. P. O of taking sides, she transferred the case to another station, where she can easily have her away, getting to the new station again, the Area commander there, also advised her to repair my vehicle, she heeded, took the vehicle to a mechanic where the job was haparzardly done, i complained, but she threatened me more"
According to statement from the solicitor of Mr Tombra, F. B. Olorogun, Esq., MCIArb., written on Wednesday 1st June to Mrs. Ebi Agbedi advised her to stop using her public office as a Police Officer and her husband's status to intimidate, harass and ridicule their client, their statement further urged her to return their clients vehicle to the original state, or they may be forced to proceed to court in quest for justice.

In response, the solicitor to Mr. Fred Agbedi, B. DEIN Esq, has also wriiten back, stating that, Mrs. Ebi Agbedi was not on the said convoy, they maintained in their statement, that the convoy belonged to Hon. Fred Agbedi, they therefore advised Mr. Tombra to Apologise to Mrs. Agbedi as he was accusing her of what she has no knowledge of.

Their statement further directed Mr. Tombra to hold responsible the driver of the said Vehicle, as he was responsible to cater for damages, they also maintained that repair works were ongoing with the said vehicle, so they were surprised why Mr. Tombra was still insisting on the case.

Mr. Tombra demanded nothing but for his car to be returned back to the original state.

Below is the statement of Mr. Tombra solicitor, written to Mrs. Agbedi :

Wednesday,
1st June,
2016.

TO:
Mrs. Ebi Agbedi,
Hon. Fred Agbedi’s Compound,
Portland Hotel Street,
Opp. Doo Akpo Base,
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Dear Madam,
RE: DAMAGE TO BLACK FORD F150 PICK-UP WITH REGISTRATION NO: LSD 585 XD AND CHASSIS NO: 1FTFWIEVOAFCO4833, PROPERTY OF MR. PAUL SIMON TONBRA.

We are Solicitors to Mr. Paul Simon Tombra hereinafter referred to as ‘‘Our Client’’ and on whose instructions we write you in respect of the above-mentioned vehicle which was damaged as a result of the negligence by your convoy of cars that ran off its course on the 24th of April, 2016.

Our client informed us that contrary to your oral undertaking in furtherance of your admission of liability for the damage done to our client’s car to effect satisfactory repairs, the said vehicle was taken to sub-standard workshop of your choice on the 28th of April, 2016. The workshop promised to complete repairs and spraying within two weeks.

Our client visited the workshop three (3) weeks ago and found the work to be totally unsatisfactory: the panel-beating and spraying is not smooth, the fuel tank cover has not been replaced, the chassis of the vehicle is bent and cannot be corrected by that sub-standard workshop.

It is unfortunate that the reasons or excuses given by you for the continued delay are untenable, as you have refused to take satisfactory steps to take the vehicle to a standard company to put the vehicle back to its original shape before the accident. We must emphasize that your delay in putting the vehicle back on the road is occasioning our client and his business so much loss, embarrassment, inconvenience, ridicule, as well as mounting expenses on alternative daily means of transport.

It is pertinent at this point to bring to your knowledge that our client bought the said vehicle just February, 2016 and he has not used it up to three months before the accident occasioned by the recklessness of your driver. We have our client’s instruction to vehemently demand that the said vehicle be put in its original shape within (7) Seven Days from the receipt of this letter or a new vehicle be delivered to him forthwith.

TAKE NOTICE that unless the above demand is met as requested, we shall perfect our client’s final instruction to institute legal action to demand replacement of the damaged vehicle, all costs and adequate damages.

We do hope you will not allow this rather simple matter to degenerate into complicated dimensions.

Yours faithfully,
F. B. Olorogun, Esq., MCIArb.,
Principal and Head of Chambers.
