This is the sorry state of Ikom-Calabar highway at Akpet Central Village in Cross River state. The road which has been badly affected due to heavy downpour -caused obstruction for road users and motorists for four days. The road was cleared by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday (yesterday). See photos below;

Some of you ladies don't understand the logic behind things in politics.

That road is a federal road and not a state road and so it lays in the hands of the Buhari-led federal government to construct.

Its a federal road and lays in the hands of the federal government.

I think what you should suggest is that the state government construct it on behalf of their people and then get re-inbursed by the federal government for the state money spent on renovating federal property.

Its like all their Governor does with state funds is wait till December to siphon cash via Carnival and carry Oloshos.

those roads you mentioned are federal roads.

state has done its best when it comes to road network.

go to calabar, Yakurr,Ikom, Ogoja and Obudu and check state roads.

Hold on..

Calabar Road.. Pfft!

Shey you will need to pass Ikom to get to Ogoja, Obubra and Obudu? SO if Ikom - Calabar is bad (which it has been for the last 6 years I have known Cross Rivers), where should I then go?

yes you will need to pass Ikom-obudu.

dont confuse federal road with state.

The road from Obudu Via Ogoja or Boki to Ikom to Calabar is a Federal Road.

infact, that road is the major reason most cross riverians were really angry with GEJ even though they voted him based on sentiments.

i can remember Donald Duke asked him about that very road at d U.J Esuene stadium.

So this is how farmers like me are expected to take our goods to the marketplace, worse still Nigeria has dreams of diversifying its economy away from oil and start exporting agricultural goods abroad to earn FOREX. How is this possible? Our prices can't be competitive because of the high and unreliable transport input costs. How can our leaders be surprised that there is a shortage of tomatoes when the roads are so bad to move them around the country from farms , by the time it reaches its destination it has either fried itself in the sun or spoils. Those that make it are so expensive because of the high transport costs associated with high maintenance of vehicles and slow turn around of vehicles because of the bad roads.

To diversify the Nigeria economy from oil we must have a good road network to move goods around the country or the seaports. Apart from militancy one of the reasons the oil drilling companies left land drilling activities was the problem of getting the oil from land sites to the seaports. They simply prefer offshore operations where they don't have to deal with Nigerian roads and just load from water to ship to Europe or USA. Also look at distribution of goods to Nigeria, the only smooth part of the transport operation is from the foreign country to Nigeria ports, from there it is hell or so expensive to then move around the country.

The bad road network can be compared to the internet revolution. Imagine a business relying on slow communication methods to convey messages and documents, think, using the postal services instead of email or using human messengers to how business nowadays is done online with fast internet services. How can that business compete effectively. The same thing with transport of goods, competing countries have fast and reliable cargo trains, good road networks so that goods can move around fast at optimum cost to the producers and manufacturers of goods and agric products and Nigeria is using roads like this to compete with Europe, Asia, and even other African countries to sell its agricultural products worldwide..... GTFOH... China has a massive demand for pigs and needs to import to meet needs, dear FG and state Govts how do we take advantage of these opportunities for farms like Jessam to sell abroad and bring back taxable revenue for YOU. As it stands by the time i take my livestock to seaport it is no longer competitive, even if my farm is in Lagos, by the time i buy corn from north to feed my pigs they become uncompetitively priced

Time to wake up

Really! I thought your hero is done with construction of all your roads before he left office including 2nd Niger Bridge? Money that was swallowed by Dansuki and the rest which you always support is enough to repair this road in multiple times.

Your eyes don dey clear now.
