Should Nigeria Be Divided Into Smaller Nations? by Justmary06(f): 12:58pm On Jun 19, 2016
Firstly, greetings from me to you *on my knees, literally, as par my typical Yoruba heritage*. As the subject implies, this is a general discussion and very much open to individual opinions.
"Discussion is an exchange of knowledge, argument an exchange of ignorance" Robert Quillen.
I came across this article http://www.africafederation.net/Biafra_Nigeria.htm and felt I should write my opinion about it also. I am aware that this has been a matter of discussion & arguments for several years now and its nothing new. Am also aware that, just like many other conflicting issues in this country, nothing has really been done or said about it.

Khadijah Muhammad wrote "We should learn from the plight of Sudan and Somalia. Sudan is divided but they are still fighting. Somalia has broken up in to fragments. We should not make the same mistakes. The masses should realize that the political class do not care for the people. If the country divides, only the power hungry political class will gain by becoming president of small countries. Then the tribes will naturally be having clashes for supremacy in their small localities. Let us not forget the intra-ethnic and intra-religious crises in Jos. It is high time the masses become selfish and put their lives ahead. We have sacrificed too much for a political class that is always engaged in numerous frauds and scam. If Nigeria fails some of our leaders will be the first to bail out. Their children are living abroad. They go for medical treatments abroad and they have properties." (http://www.naijastories.com/2012/05/reasons-why-nigeria-should-not-divide/).

And if that is not enough to send chills down your spine then reading about Yugoslavia and Yugoslav wars should. It did for me anyways. Yugoslavia WAS a country in the southeast Europe during most of the 20th century. The country was made up of six republics which include the SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SR Croatia, SR Macedonia, SR Montenegro, SR Slovenia and SR Serbia. The breakup of a Yugoslavia occurred as a result of series of political upheavals and conflicts during the early 1990s. After a period of political crisis in1980s, constituent republics of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia split apart, but the unsolved issues caused bitter interethnic Yugoslav wars. The Yugoslav wars lasted for 10years 8months (31march, 1991-12november,2001). The war started off in Croatia and then, most severely, in multiethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina. The wars left long-term economic and political damage in the region. Nigeria seem to be heading toward same fate (Mistakes are made so Lessons would be learnt).

Surprisingly, One of the solutions to Nigeria's Political and Economical problems is to divide the country into smaller countries. But not without serious considerations especially settling conflicts between interethnic groups as well as the Religious crisis. If such issues are not tackled and all parties involved comes to a mutual understanding, dissolving Nigeria will be nothing but our own definition of World war II. Although, Czechoslovakia is an example of a country that peacefully divided into Slovakia and Czech Republic but lets not forget to consider the population of the former which was 15 million citizens, not even up to 10% of our population.
##The second solution is for Nigeria to be subdivided into separate republics with its own form of government system but still under a type of Union (maybe Nigeria Union NU or as unoriginal as United Nations/states of Nigeria). Anyways, this idea also has a major set backs if you consider the Yugoslavia's History.
##The third solution is to emulate most developed countries or even world powers Like USA, USSR, UK and even China... Many of this countries do not believe in existence as a small nations rather they "enlarge their coast" in order to become stronger. Political, economical, religious and ethnical issues or difference are tabled out in a form of "Intelligent Meetings" and solutions and amicable agreement are reached. (By intelligent meetings, I mean meetings where discussions not arguments take place).

"Discussion is impossible with someone who claims not to seek the truth but already possess it"
Romain Rolland.

As usual my article is never complete without including Words from the Bible which is my only source of Wisdom.

**** Titus 3:9-11 "
"But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned."
**** 1 Corin 1:10
"I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." Though the message is for the church but as a true Christian, we should know that we are the Church.
**** Proverbs 28:25
"The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper."
**** Romans 16:17-18
"I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive."
**** Luke 11:17
"But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls."
**** Jude 1:16-19
"These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit."
**** Mark 3:24-26
"If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end."

Thanks for having the patience to read this post and also with an open mind. *exits while singing "One Love Onyeka Onwenu"*
