Hello Nairalanders,
I strongly want this issue of Local number portability discussed in this great forum as I am in the crusade of raising one million Nigerian votes for it. Local number portability allows you to switch to any network of your choice within your geographical region (in this case Nigeria) whenever you feel dissatisfied by the service of your GSM operator using the same number given you by your GSM operator ( I mean the same SIM CARD you own) This will prevent use of 2 or even 3 phones by some of us. This technology is available with all GSM operators in the country (MTN, ZAIN, GLO, ETISALAT and many more). All you need do when you want to switch is just type a code on your phone and within minutes you are on the network of your choice. This poses a lot of benefit to us. Some of the important benefits is that:
1. It increases the efficiency of the GSM operators in the country.
2. It enforces low and competitive tarrif  among them.
3. It reduces (if not eliminates totally) the menace of stealing of handsets in the country.

There are many more issues and information to come on this great and important topic as I receive constructive criticism on this issue.
Please be informed that no GSM operator in this country will want this crusade to see the light of the day because of the poor and inefficient services they render. If we can get the support of the NCC and the federal government (either by passing a bill in the house of assembly) or by getting at least one million signatures of Nigerians in support of this crusade, we will WIN.
Pls your opinion is required and YOUR VOTE IS NEEDED. thx
