^^^Me, i do. In fact, most of the time when doing hardcore coding, I disable even that. Wait until you start doing hardcore programming, you will understand this my statement better.
Aside of all that, I dont really need an antivirus at that, I know my way around everywhere. If i use my pc by myself all the time, no antivirus shall be required. I cannot explain that right here, but hardcore programmers will understand.
How about flash drive - I can detect and remove most common viruses on a flash drive without the use of an antivirus (as can many experienced computer users / programmers / hackers).

I dont know, I guess it is a Nigerian thing. I was using Avast, but due to performance issues - it was killing my android studio, i switched to avast which is easier for me to configure without affecting my performance.

I have used AVG (i will say the best), followed by Avast (second best),
Others like Kapersky, Norton, Windows defenders - I dont like them for personal reasons, so I avoid them.

why on earth would someone discourage the use of avast?

Lol Nigerian thing, u switched from avast to? My avast was interfering with the AVD of my android studio too. I disabled a certain visual component on d avast setting and d problem went away. You have a good reason for walking away, but many none programmers discourage avast for reasons am still yet to know

^^^Many of them do not even know the reason avast is being discouraged (personally i dont). But you will hear some people say that it is not as strong as kapersky, but they wont be able to explain it still
Last time i had a virus attack on my system was like 10yrs+, and all these years i have been using avg (70% of the time) and avast (30% of the time) - and the free ones for that matter.

The problem i have is that sometimes avast locks the intermediate files while building your app, and android studio will get stranded. So when i switch on android studio, i switch of the avast shield for that time.

Personally, I don't like Avast because I feel it has too much swag for nothing..... Any small thing

- ko ko ko Threat has been detected
- Avast virus database has been updated

The user would think virus can never enter the computer, however, all the times I used Avast, my computer would crash sooner due to virus attacks.

So I finally decided it is best not to use an anti virus because they slow down the general performance of the computer eg
- They scan each file being opened. So any time you open a program, file or anything, it will scan it
- They scan ports too almost every time

I use manual method and Advanced System Care and I've not had issues in years

^^^What are you doing that is bringing virus to your system? You need to block that - are you watching porn sites? or allowing people to put flash drives in your system anyhow? those are common ways that viruses enter your pc.

For me, my PC is strictly a coding system - and coding does not bring virus. I dont allow ANYONE to touch my system.

Not only avast. AVG, Kaspersky, McAfee and the lot... The AV on my system right now is Windows Defender. It doesn't affect my gaming performance, and won't start throwing off tantrums when I recompile my code like. Commercial AV for me is just bloatware - I might be wrong.

Of course I understand all these points but one - why the persistent use of hardcore/experienced programmer? Anyway, I don't like commercial AV because of their warnings/alert when recompiling my code. And mainly because it affects my gaming experience

oga u just talk my mind, i stopped using antivirus long ago, incase anybody inserts a contracted flash or harddisk, i use command prompt to chew any virus, nd monitor the background process for any, can't code with anti virus runnin as some times my code heats up the processor completly, i have to stop other heavy processes also, just was wondering how oga dhtml18 d use anti virus nd code also on same machine?

I do exactly the same that you do, i stop the avast shields when i am writing serious codes that need recompiling (otherwise you lappy go rest in piece)
