Hello Guys, Fathers and Mothers in the house,

I was curious to know what the ideal age is for kids to start washing dishes, not necessarily dishes for the entire household but at least their own.

Now obviously this wouldn't apply to homes that use a dish washer, it's for people that do it my way, with ya hands...

Was of the opinion that 7years is ideal??
What do y'all think

From 5 years old is ideal even if they have to stay for 1 hour playing around with water and detergent foam..
Op for me 7 its too old afterall, look at Daniella of Mak Angels at 6..

The age they are tall enough to reach the sink with the aid of a stool (akpoti). That was how I started @ 6years.

6-8 years seems appropriate.

I think 5 is ok, they may not do it perfectly at start and kinda take it as play but they'll improve with time

Different strokes for different folks. I and my siblings did not do house chores till we came off age (secondary school), and it did not stop us from doing it well when we started. My mum did everything, whereas, unconsciously, we have learnt how to sweep, wash, cook etc. It all depends on the mother sha.

6-7years. Eat and wash your plate. Then the pots and others can be left for the elder ones.

My children will start when they finish secondary school.

Mine will start from 7.

For me I think the'll be washing plates with me when she is three years old..i think her job then will be keeping the plates and rinsing...

When they are 5,they do that on their own and i won't be able to help them anymore...

hmm, that's probably a joke... On average you graduate from high school at like 15years. So no washing plates till then, not even gonna work particularly if the kid goes to a federal boarding school like it did, s/he will do even more chores than that.

So kids aren't supposed to do anything?? Interesting, please where did you learn and or hear that from...
If you raise your kids without them doing any chore, even if its merely laying their beds, there's a high tendency they will grow up into lazy beings. I went to a boarding school and that helped me tons.
You never know what life throws at you, you need to learn to be independent and fend without help from anyone.

Hmm interesting, i like that though. Starting household chores at an early age will likely helps kid be more useful and responsible.
I honestly thought age 5 was way too young before reading some comments here...

Guess 6 might be more ideal, even if they can't yet wash, they should be engaged and present when you wash.

he will be seven in few months time n besides he washed only in d evening (not everyday self)after ho$e work.

7 is cool. I started washing plates since I was in primary1 till I gained admission into university. First born concern. My sister took after me after I left home for school. She was probably in jss2 then. This single act has shaped a part of me that I cannot even cope inside a dirty kitchen u can't blame me tho

My daughter should be able to make me yam peppersoup at 4.
