Hello,
I love to travel within Nigeria. I love road trips.
This time I want to take it a step further.

Planning to embark on a road trip across Cotonou, Togo and Ghana.

Kick off will be from Badagry. There's an amazing beach resort in Badagry very close to Seme Border.

I'll spend a night in Badagry then proceed to the Border for the real adventure.

From Ceme border to Cotonou then Port Novo.

Then to Togo and Ghana.

This trip will be for 6days most likely in the month of October.

If you wish to be my travel companion feel free to comment let's plan this together.

I would like to have this kind of adventure;never experienced it before. What‘s the rough estimate that can cater for the journey?

I'm beginning to learn this. Most of my travels have been by air but of recent I've tried going by road and discovered although stressful it's more satisfying and an experience in itself.

One question...... Have you done this before... And two more questions..... Will you use your passport? And do you know the current exchange rate?

I've not done it before. That's why I'm here so I can get some advice.

I have a passport but from what I discovered I can do without it. Is this true?

I don't know the current exchange rates

I have done a long road trip myself..... And it was fun, with my passport. But despite the fact that I have airport stamps in my passport, they still called my passport a virgin passport, and fleeced me of my money...

But I still advice you use your passport tho.....

Ask ME ANY other questions

If you do not have a yellow fever card, it will be even more expensive tho.

I spent 3000+ at Seme
I can't remember hilla condji
and Aflao.......
But as a virgin passport holder, you will be exploited big time, that is for sure.

So if you have a right budget, just use your voters card instead. You will still pay, but far less.
That is my advise for you.

But if you like to keep stamps of different countries, like I do, they you can use your passport.

As for budget, ! I can't really say, because when I took my trip, the exchange rate was not this terrible o.
But since you are spending six days (hotels + tramsport+ food+ souvenirs + bribes etc) maybe you should have AT LEAST 70 GRAND on you.

And another thing.. Keep your money well, or divide it into two, half in your acct and half on you. You can withdraw over ATM there (I do it a lot)

Ask me any other questions

I've done this stretch before but stopped in Togo.
Are you driving or taking public transport

I did this in 2009 with my 4 brothers. Took bus to Mile 2, then a car to seme border. You will pass the Nigerian border on foot. Sometimes, the police or immigration officer may ask for proof of I'd. Please take your passport or any id card. You can change money at the se.e border. You may decide to get your passport stamped or not. You will then take a bike to Benin Republic. One of my brothers was delayed cos of no id card. We paid 200 naira then to release him.
We then took another car to le grande marche where dey sell okrika clothes then went to a cheap dingy hotel to sleep. We continued by road to togo which was less stressful than the Nigerian leg of the journey.

Best of luck dude. If you like I can give you a few pages off my blog to chronicle your journey

Dear poster....may i ask how old you are? I already assume you are a guy
I ask cos I wanna do that trip...but for a longer time....?2/3 weeks....or a month even
...to be able to soak up the feel of those countries.....both city feel, and country (village) feel
I would like to go with people near my age, I jes dunno why tongue

I honestly cannot wait for later...when I will road travel throughout West Africa, for 6 weeks
Then at a later time, another 6weeks in East Africa....ditto for Southern Africa, and Central Africa
For each regional trip, would fly to the capital city of the most popular country (would have the cheapest flight fare ...cos of the popularity), get a base there, and start the road wandering...will return via said base too....

The easiest part would be the West African one, cos of our ECOWAS passport treaty
Still gonna work out how the other regions would work...then bam! Off I go
IMO, better than browsing shops in Dubai, London, New Jersey, Mumbai etc for tourism lipsrsealed

The biggest WOWtrip would be spending a straight 3 to 6 months on a road trip throughout most of Africa cool
I think this would be all kinds of awesome...meeting people, knowing the towns, getting lost, bonding, eating, slumming, partying, beaching, foresting, everything...drooling now
Still working out how to make this happen

Cheers OP
I like your thread
and @wanderlustian, if you are the person with that Europe travel thread, you rock cool
